I was talking to a couple of women last night as we were waiting in our seats for Springsteen to start, and because these women seemed to have roots back East and were into music, I said, are you familiar with Susan Werner? One of them said that someone from a radio station had given her a copy of Last of the Good Straight Girls but she hadn't listened to it. I said, "Oh, you've got to, and you must see Susan in person when she comes West in February." This story doesn't go any further than this...yet. Maybe we have a new fan in the making. I did a similar bit of "proselytizing" on the plane from Reno yesterday... met a woman who lives in Boston, and started discussing music in general, including the coffeehouse scene. I recommended Susan, Vance, and Ellis Paul among others, and I happened to be have Susan playing on my minidisk player, so I loaned it to her to hear "Tappan Zee," "Snow White," and LOTGST... (she loaned me her Harry Connick..) and suggested she watch for future northeast touring... To coin a phrase, "Hey, Mikey, she likes it!" Interesting timing indeed...since Susan will be at Club Passim in Cambridge tomorrow, Saturday the 23rd for a 7 and a 10 oclock show. The 7 show is sold out, but tickets are still available for the 10. Susan will also be in Franklin, MA in the beginning of November. Tomorrow's show is 365 days after her show at the Emerson Umbrella just outside of Boston. Kinda odd...last year her concert was on my brother's birthday which he didn't make (the show, not the birthday), this year it's the day before and he still can't make it... Already have my ticket stuck to the refrigerator! The venue is roughly 45 minutes from Wichita, and only seats 110 - very intimate. Can hardly wait! We only get to see her once a year out here. We also spin TBT in the Tavern. Most recently I was serving a recording artist named Trish Vogel. I am not familiar with her work but when she said that she was in Nashville I instantly implored her to check Susan out. She seemed excited to listen to a new voice.
