She plugged in "...the kind of advice that today's Baron and Baroness parents would want to pass on to their kids". The words were stock market, 401k, and hedge fund advice sung to the tune of 'Eidelweiss' and in a voice that was totally Julie Andrews. Anyone have that one on tape and be willing to share? I unfortunately did not get a chance to catch the "Rolling in the aiels" workshop she was in, but at the "All that Jazz" workshop she did a version of "Girl for Iponima (spelling?)" but it was along the lines of "Guy from Iowa". All i remember was Vance Gilbert rolling his eyes and pleading her not to do it...it was hysterical!!! I guess at the other workshop she did her own version of "Doe a Dear" with a stock market theme (gods i wish i could have stayed!!!!)....hmmm...i sense a pattern here....perhaps she was a stock broker in a previous life...;-) Amy ===== send fru lit mag submissions to adifru@hotmail.com...any and all material are welcome! She did it at the Bull Run in Shirley when someone yelled that.... Here's an excerpt from Cara's review; Someone called out as she was putting her guitar back on, "The French one!" She seemed to ignore them, and I heard the voice, much quieter, add, "or not!" Susan was humming, then sang some high riff, as if parodying the song . . . then suddenly stepped up to the mike and began LA VIE EN ROSE Halfway through, she stepped away from the mike, and at the end, she thanked the person for requesting it, and confessed she was forgetting the words. No matter, she does the song amazingly, and I don't speak French! Please say "HI" To Susan and Jane from all of us believers! I envy you! In the 8/13 "Bull Run Sendoff" concert in Shirley,MA she did the "Dow Jones" song. Here's what Cara had to write about it (okay Cara, Now I've quoted you twice today - have your ears been ringing?); "Then she did one that she had only done one or two other times in public (I think it was one). I guess it's called; NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE It was Do-Re-Mi, with what Susan thought Maria might want to teach the Von Trapp children today--about money! "Dow," up through "Wiltshire" (I remember that one because she said "stock steak sauce" and "S & P" ("Two letters" she said), finally "Bull, the market's going up, Bear, the market's going down, Crash, we all jump off a cliff, which will bring us back to Dow!" On November 17th, Music-Cal has Susan playing a house concert in Vienna, VA. Flem-Tam lists no such date. Neither site lists any contact information for tickets. On December 10th, Susan is either playing at McCormick's Pub or the Stuart Hall Auditorium in Staunton, VA-----each site lists a different place. Does anyone have any information on these gigs? I'd love to go to both-----if they happen. Let's start at the very beginning A very good place to start When you sing you begin with Do-Re-Mi To make money you begin N-Y-S-E, N-Y-S-E The first four letters just happen to be N-Y-S-E It means the New York Stock Exchange Oh dear...Lets see if I can make this easier The DOW is an average of industrial stocks NASDAQ is high technology S & P is blue chip stocks Wiltshire samples all the stocks that be Bull: the markets going up Bear: the markets going down Crash: we all jump off a cliff That will bring us back to the DOW "Ad lib" on the market, the baron and his money, the baroness and her money, high risk vs.low risk, his yield vs. hers, and their need to learn like she has that high risk yields high gain so that their kids can sit idly around learning songs from a perky English governess Now children, lets try this song together I'll give you little clues First think of a Chinese philosophy...Tao (DOW) Now think of high technology stocks- Intel and Amazon.com...NASDAQ Now think of two initials; not A & P but...S & P Now think of a kind of financial steak sauce...Wiltshire Now everything Pat Buchanan says is...Bull And everything George W Bush says is hard to...Bear And now what does America On Line does every afternoon...Crash .... Lets try it altogether now children (And as an apparant answer to how Susan feels about singing along, at least under certain conditions, she got us to all join in...) DOW...The DOW is an average of industrial stocks NASDAQ...NASDAQ is high technology S & P...S & P is blue chip stocks WILTSHIRE...Wiltshire samples all the stocks that be BULL...Bull the markets going up BEAR...Bear the markets going down CRASH...Crash we all jump off a cliff That will bring us back to the DOW DOW, DOW, DOW Very good children and next week we'll learn a song about Initial Public Offerings that goes (sung to the tune of Eidelweiss) "IPO, IPO..." What was the date of the "Eidelweiss" financial cover??? Co-incidence...I doubt it!!! Well that was fun. Amazing what ahalf-century and three teens does to the brain. Yep, I was humming do-re-mi but typed eidelweis. my three teens grew up on Sound of Music and Pooh videos: cheap babysitters there. Could be it was Great Society, once Grace started singing I'd just lay back and enjoy. Thanks.
