The Dead was somewhat unique in this respect. Hot Tuna and Jefferson Starship (both offshoots of Jefferson Airplane) allow taping, but these groups have pretty much exhausted their record market. In the case of someone like Susan, who will be releasing new material for, hopefully, many years, she may not want a lot of tapes floating around. - -----Original Message----- From: Murphy, Steve To: 'Ron Rosen' ; A.T. I tape a lot of folk concerts. My primary rule: I don't tape if I cannot get prior permission. I usually go seeking the artist before the sound check, or right after it (though they frequently "hide" after sound check). That said, Susan was quite happy to have me videotape her show at The Handlebar last year. That tape is a treasure for me. But please don't do it because I said I did. Find a way to ask her before the show. - -- Dennis Lovelady Fayetteville, GA mail: dennis@lovelady.com dennis.e.lovelady@ac.com URL: http://www.lovelady.com **NEW** ICQ: 5734860 - -- "How is it that our memory is good enough to retain the least triviality that happens to us, and yet not good enough to recollect how often we have told it to the same person?" - Duc de La Rochefoucauld HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Sep 1999 21:45:46 -4000 From: "Charlie Sweeney" Subject: Re: another question or two..or so... Right now, I think Susan would prefer no taping. This could change, but I don't really know the ramifications vis-a-vis Susan's contract with Bottom Line Records. Taping is often regulated as part of the contract. Touring schedule is often influenced contractually as well. > ummm...oh yes! the college group that i'm involved > with are the one's who book all the bands for the > year. this is a possiblity (with none too subtle > persuasion from me ;-) that they may be interested in > booking susan werner. is there any info that can be > had (e-mail address, phone #) for booking info? Ellis Paul doesn't object to taping for private use, nor I think does James Keelaghan. John Wesley Harding is the greatest (in this respect at least!): according to folks on his mailing list, he'll let tapers plug into his amplifying equipment (argh! "Soundboard" is the word you were looking for. You're welcome. :^) Eddie From Ohio ( http://www.efohio.com ) is very much in favor of taping, will allow people to plug into the soundboard, and also has tape trades on their site. I was videoing their concert at The Handlebar, and Robbie took the camera and started running around the audience, then back up on the stage with it, giving me a view I could never otherwise have hoped to see. He did the same thing with my camera the next time I saw them. Too cool! If you get a chance to see them, I think most Susan fans would love the music and the show they put on. - -- Dennis Lovelady Fayetteville, GA mail: dennis@lovelady.com dennis.e.lovelady@ac.com URL: http://www.lovelady.com **NEW** ICQ: 5734860 - -- "Tact is the ability to describe others as they see themselves." - Abraham Lincoln HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V3 #203 ******************************* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
