We ought to take this off-line before "they" start accusing us of rudely dominating the list and annoying them with off-topic discussion. Actually, in many ways, this has much to do with Susan Werner's music. I still believe...so let's play nice. They used to have physical brawls in the halls of congress. My grandfather used to run whiskey but couldn't see the comparison to selling pot. At one time, most people lived into their fifties, if they were lucky. People used to be alot shorter. (OK. What's wrong with that?) A lot of guys used to fight if someone looked at their girlfriends the wrong way; and the girls used to think that was cool. Teens used to drag race all over America in their souped up stock cars, killing themselves on a regular basis. Some rednecks used to beatup hippies. Some hippies used to be abusive toward rednecks. (Some of my best friends are rednecks or hippies.) Blacks used to have their own schools. Heck, blacks used to be slaves. When I was a kid, we could drink ourselves drunk, drive ourselves home not knowing how we got there, and parents and cops would often write it off as just something kids go through. Fist fights in schools were a regular (every couple of weeks) occurrence when I was growing up. Now they are very rare and taken very seriously. Infant mortality was far higher. A lot of parents used to spank, slap, beat, & whip their kids because it was good for them. Not too long ago guys couldn't cry or hug, and women couldn't be carpenters. Nixon McCarthy Sure some things are worse now. We do need to learn how to cope with our new weapons of mass destruction (eg. faster cars, faster lifestyles, guns, nuclear weapons, email, etc...) Two steps forward; one step back. Overall, from a distance, I think things are improving though certainly not everything >By the way, beards really annoy me and disturb my >ability to enjoy a show so I'm going to make sure that there are razors and >plenty of soapy water at the door. ;-)) Perhaps you could give me my millennium shave. :-) Keep believing, "The Bearded One" HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 05:40:52 EDT From: LuCkYDaBeD@aol.com Subject: Re: the decline of civilization continued... I wonder about any person or group who "knows" what they (will) have contributed to society, and what will be written about them in history books. I don't know what my generation will (or has) contributed to the history books, and I'm happy with that. I could say a bit more about the subject, but I'm stopping. :) maria HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Aug 1999 08:20:39 -0400 From: Bob Scott Subject: Susan Live At 03:40 AM 8/19/99 -0400, you wrote: >Anyway, hope to meet some fellow Believers. That won't help you pick me outta the crowd :-) I picked up a copy of LOTGSG a few years ago in a used CD shop, "sorta liked" it and put Susan on my "to see" list. Naturally I had just missed her at the Birchmere (2 miles from my house) so, on a whim, my girlfriend and I drove up to see her the next week at the Tin Angel (I HATE missing things). I was entranced/enthralled/in love/blown away/you name it. (You can read all about Susan's "mastery of the stage", but until you see her you don't really appreciate it.) That night she was fronting a three piece band featuring the laconic Jay Scott on lead guitar. It was the only time in my entire 'Susan history' that I've heard her sing "Man Who Used To Love Me" - my hands down favorite song. Un-B-Leave-Able. I'll remember that performance my whole life. (If I hear "La Vie" live I'll probably just evaporate.) Maybe we can all chip in and buy her a band for Christmas. (I can see the $1500 "Limited Edition" pledge pins now!) She's ripper just doing the singer bit. Side note: Yes, Tin Angel fans, they DID fit four people up on the stage - barely. George, the sound guy, commented that they could accommodate up to 12 performers, but it required mikeing the dressing room and lavoratory. Anyway see you there - enjoy!! I had sent out a note about this a few months ago, but thought it worth sending out another one... There's a "Kerrville Folk" 7-day cruise vacation in January down to Cozumel, etc., that features Trout Fishing, Tish Hinojosa, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Susan (and others?) along for the ride, performing concerts and doing picking parties!!! This sounds like a heck of a lot of fun...at a reasonable price (<$1000)... check it out at: http://www.kerrville-music.com/cruise2000.html ...and happy cruisin' -- wish I could do it! The lineup was full of great talent, and although it's not a competition, Susan showed that she was in a different league. Having been to so many Susan shows, it's now fun to watch other people's reactions to her music & her stand-up routine. She by FAR got the most reaction from the crowd, who by the way was sitting in the pouring rain through most of the festival. For the hour that Susan was on stage, I think most people forgot about the weather completely. I would like to put in a plug for Guy Davis, who I had never heard before. This guy plays fantastic delta style blues.
