All done. I'll be good now. (Except when I'm singing and dancing, quietly and off to the side, at Susan Werner shows. Sorry. I can't help it. Sitting quietly would interfere with my enjoyment of the show. And it really annoys me when everybody just sits there. But what's even worse is those Asian guys who think they can dance. They should have to dance in the back. :-) All done now. Really.) And you lived through the sixties. They've been saying that >since the late 18th Century. :-) Of course, some people in every culture are always saying it, but sometimes they are right. I mean Rome did go into the toilet at some point. Back in the '60's, there weren't metal detectors or shootings at high schools, everyone in high school could read, there weren't drive-by shootings, you didn't have to fear that the guy you accidently just cut off in traffic might try to shoot you, you didn't have to seriously consider whether by telling someone to keep quiet in a theater, you might get stabbed in the parking lot afterwards, etc., etc. And you certainly would not have a discussion about whether it was okay to disturb other people in a public situation where half the discussants would argue "Yes," or seriously argue that silence may be as disturbing to some as singing is to others. Do you really disagree about American culture Bearded One, and do you want to discuss it, or do you just like to step in at the end with one-liners and have the last word? By the way, beards really annoy me and disturb my ability to enjoy a show so I'm going to make sure that there are razors and plenty of soapy water at the door. ;-)) HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 11:56:15 -0400 From: Christopher Subject: Re: Fw: American Culture This has nothing to do with Susan and I apologize for even responding. These "Oh Kids Today" comments annoy me. I'm with the BEARDED ONE in beleiving that the decline of the US has been shouted for many generations. I have no problem, in another forum, dicussing the conflicts that most certainly exist. I do have a problem with holding up ANY generation as the untarnished one. Open discussion being an anathema to culture? What's your point? I know this is late in coming but I didn't get home until monday morning and this is the first time I feel human enough to post. First of all THE BEARDED ONE ... I have seen the pins and MUST have a couple !! Please let us know when the next batch is ready. I had a great time on friday even though I was in much the same condition as Susan (too little sleep and too much driving). I had worked all night with a brief nap at about 2AM and then drove the 8 hours to MA all day friday. I too was a bit squirrely but a couple of beers and some food calmed that down. The set, as described earlier, was phenomenal. She never ceases to amaze me. I had heard about the Frank Lloyd Wright song but could not imagine how it would affect me when I did actually hear the lyrics. If the lyrics have been posted, I missed them so please if you have them, send them to me. I also loved the Chains of Love song. Susan is just about the best at those "lost love" songs so this "just plain love song" was entirely enjoyable to this "just plain in love" girl. The pins definitely worked. I was able to approach a group of women and ask them if they were on the list (as opposed to standing on a chair and summoning "the bearded one"). Tom and I had great seats again at a table with two women new to Susan and a another couple that was more familiar with her. One highlight was "La Vie En Rose" or "the french song". I would dare say perfection also. The audience reaction was wonderful and appreciative. When she stepped away fromt he microphone it only enforced what a talent she is. We got to say hello after the show (well Tom saw her before and complimented her on her hair cut) and she remembered us from previous shows. We even got hugs this time. She said a couple of times during the night, in regards to her mood, that she was "just trying to be honest with us". That one of the things that I adore about Susan. She is genuine and honest and funny and talented - a real person. I can't wait to see her again (although I have no idea when that may be). - -- Peggy (see you at a show sometime soon) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 22:11:00 -0400 From: four episode lesbian Subject: Re: Squirrely in Shirley when we last left our heroes, P Simon exclaimed: >I had heard about the Frank Lloyd Wright song but could not imagine how it >would affect me when I did actually hear the lyrics. does this scream, "play me on the parker fly!" to anyone else as well? woj HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Aug 1999 22:48:18 EDT From: Bodyworks4@aol.com Subject: North Atlantic Folk Festival~ I am sure this will come out as one of the most biased accounts ever, but I was present at the NAFF in Rockland, ME, and this needs to be said. There were amazing performers there. I am a huge fan of John Gorka, Cheryl Wheeler, Johnathan Edwards, hell- Christine Lavin!!!!! I saw them all. I was in awe. HOWEVER--- I made notice of something. I do believe that in comparison to them, Susan blew them all out of the water. Her style, her ability to draw emotional landscapes into your mental eyes, her musical talent, the way she can twist words to fit a mood and a meaning (I don't need to go on for the Susan fans, you get the point). There were heavy hitters out there, but by far, they were overshadowed by this Iowan who kicked ass. I am humbled, for the 18th time, to have the honor and joy of seeing her play. Thank you, Susan. Your intelligence and ability shine through and remind me that some people still perform because it's what they LOVE. Sorry for the length, I was on a ramble!
