Apologies for the cross-posting and mostly off-topic content, but I'm hoping that this will be of interest to some here. I have been working with my friend Chuck Stipak, whose idea all this was, to put together an outdoor concert performance to benefit two charities in Danbury, Connecticut. ectofest '99 will take place on Saturday, September 4, 1999 from noon to 7 pm. All proceeds will benefit the Interfaith AIDS Ministry of Greater Danbury, and the Women's Center of Greater Danbury. So far, the list of performers includes: Rob Brereton Drama Chick The Ectoplasms Happy Rhodes Rachael Sage Sloan Wainwright ... with others to be announced. All the details can be found at . I hope those of you in the area can add this event to your Labor Day weekend plans. Thanks for your attention - I now return you to your regularly scheduled list. :) +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 02:34:27 +1000 From: Sherlyn Koo Subject: Re: svetlana at falcon ridge Hey folks, >Falcon ridge saturday. didn't run into a lot of believers, but i did catch >up with meth and woj and sherlyn. susan put on a wonderful but too short set. Paul, bro, you're a lamer for missing the listmeet. (Okay, so you were busy talking to Susan at the time - no excuse...) Charlie et al, it was great to meet you! (And Charlie, thanks for that, um, unique introduction to Jane. :) And Paul is right - Susan *was* great on Saturday. She totally blew the crowd away! >it was drizzling as she started to meet and greet at that tent, and within >10 minutes or so, it was raining pretty hard. It rained for a while...very >big drops...nowhere to hide...oy. Standing on a hillside during a roaring thunderstorm - only at a folk festival would I be such a fool. *grin* (On the bright side though - my boots dried after only a couple of hours out in the killer sun on Sunday - and I thought I'd be condemned to have wet feet forever...) >I'm tired now. My sister and I decided not to stay for sunday...we both >would have liked to have seen susan's workshops on jazz songs and humorous >songs as well as moxy fruvous on the main stage, but we didn't wish to Moxy Fruvous were great - they had the crowd up and going, even if it was about a million degrees in the sun. Cheryl Wheeler also was fabulous. Both Susan's workshop appearances on Sunday were a little disappointing. They had about six different acts onstage for each, which IMO is too many. Going around a circle of six acts and giving them one song each takes about 30 minutes, which means that in an hour-long workshop Susan only got to play two songs. Sigh. But anyway. At the first workshop ("And All That Jazz") Susan played "Bring 'Round the Boat" and "Boy From East Dubuque" (much to Vance Gilbert's horror *grin*) as well as participating in the jam session (with her keyboard set to Hammond B3) at the end. At the second workshop ("Rolling in the Aisles"), she did "Ain't I Lonely Tonight" and a song she said she'd never played in public before, an updated version of the old "The Sound of Music" classic "Do Re Mi" about the financial markets ("Bull - the market's going up... Bear - the market's coming doooown...") She also made Jane come up onstage and hold up cue cards so that the audience could sing along. Very funny. Moxy Fruvous and Cheryl Wheeler were also at that workshop, so the 30 minute wait between Susan's two songs was bearable. *grin* But anyway, enough rambling from me. Viva Svetlana!
