Keep this event in mind for next year. Only $4 for the weekend. Very nice day of activities. A nice lineup of music, arts and crafts, and even amusement rides for the kids (if you are into that. I'm sure I'll be able to talk mine into going next year.). In addition to Susan, I got to see and hear Christine Lavin, Cheryl Wheeler, Cliff Eberhardt, Steve Tilston?? and Livingston Taylor. Just barely managed to get there in time to catch Susan's main stage show. Some how I thought New Bedford was on the North Shore; turns out it is on the very South Shore of Mass. Pat &/or Gail will post a set list for Susan's Main stage performance. Susan also did a "workshop" which was actually a singers-in-the-round with Cliff Eberhardt, a great singer and musician (most famous for the "Heart Beat of America" jingle), and Steve Tilston (previously unknown to me) an English fellow who did OK but was flanked by some tough acts to measure up to. On his last song he had another female join him to sing lead and she was quite good, had a great voice, but I didn't catch her name. I had to choose between Chris Smither and the workshop, a tough decision. The title of the workshop was "I Beheld a Most Pleasant Maid: Songs of Amorous Encounters." Any guesses as to which songs Susan chose? Before I tell you, I'll tell you about the pins. I brought 4 designs, all on white pearl-like heavy Fender celluloid guitar picks, mounted on a pin, the kind with the squeeze type clasp (like my old scout pins). This should compliment the metal picks that Kris is working on. Perhaps we can just identify each other via prominently displayed picks. One design had a picture of Susan with believers@smoe.org running vertical on one side (some of you may remember the picture; it's an old black & white PR photo with Susan wearing a flannel shirt, looking sweet and innocent [back in the old days], leaning on a wall) The other three just had words: 1) I'm a Believer believers@smoe.org 2) I Still Believe believers@smoe.org 3) believers@smoe.org Most everyone clearly liked the one with the picture the best. We will have them ready ASAP. If anyone wants to see what it looks like, email me directly and I'll send you a GIF. They'll likely cost $2 each when all is said and done. Once all expenses are covered extra picks will go to Jane to give away with CDs or extra funds will go to some folk charity (That OK with everyone?). Email me directly if you want one and I'll send you my mailing address and details. Who was there (at the festival) you ask? Pat & Gail (with a couple of friends), Steve and his wife Karen, Mary Ellen, and Jeff?? (Is that right? Forgive me and someone please correct me if I got it wrong or left anyone out). Other than Pat & Gail, all were new to me, and it was great to meet them. Next time we'll have to be more organized and plan to go out for a beer or something after the show. Was expecting to see Lori but either she didn't make it or was too shy. I was wearing all four pins so I don't think she could have missed me. Of course Jane, the wonder roady, was there. As usual, Susan Werner fans, especially "believers", are the greatest. Now for that "Amorous Encounters" set list: Mistake Ain't I Lonely Brazil (she explained this as kind of amorous) and finally St. Mary's (of course) and she joined Cliff as backup vocalist for his last song. The room was great but the reverb was more than a bit much. We enjoyed the show just the same. And it was great fun chatting with other believers after the show. Now we need to get Susan to acknowledge believers somehow, so we can wave and so we can have more believers. She can add it to one of her many side trips (monologues). It would be great fun would it not? See you all (or most of you in August). Enjoy Falcon Ridge for those of you lucky enough to be able to go (because your in-laws didn't schedule the once a year in-law gathering on the beaches of SC the same week as Falcon Ridge). I'm not pissed but I do know where I'd rather be. Don't forget to email me if you want a believers pick pin. And don't be shy (as if I have any right to say that).
