Hopefully we will get to meet sometime soon......It seems that the band (Something Black) is always working when there is something else we'd rather do (like see Susan :-) I can't complain too much, though.......I do get paid to do what I love.....music! Charlie will probably make the Temperance House next week........Unfortunately I have 2 First Holy Communions and a Bridal shower to make appearance at that day/night...... such is life. I think I will likely next see Susan perform at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival........anyone else planning to be there? I've been out of the country for a few weeks so I don't know if this has been posted or not.......We have a new location for our web site; Somethingblack.com Check it out and send us some e-mail :-) Well, it's 4am............ I've gotta sleep sometime soon or I am gonna be one cranky person tomorrow........ :-) Courtney (Something Black) "In the laughing times we know that we are lucky...... in the quiet times we know that we are blessed" - -Dar Williams "Life is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel" - -Horace Walpole HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Apr 1999 08:41:09 -4000 From: "Charlie Sweeney" Subject: Re: Dave Re; Working when Susan plays HI all, Courtney wrote: > I can't > complain too much, though.......I do get paid to do what I love.....music! Whew, I thought she was going to go on to something like "I'd do it for free". Can't have that getting out. I probably will be at the Temperance house, but I don't know which show yet. Susan WAS great and funny and experimented with each song in a way that makes you listen to it with fresh ears. She was sensational. The rest of this post has NOTHING to do with Susan but rather with the deplorable treatment I receievd at Serrano/TA. Skip it if you'd rather, I want this story out there. The Tin Angel/Serrano experience was less than. I had posted here asking whether or not my guest and I should have dinner at Serrano and the general advice was yes because they hold seats for those having dinner. I phoned back and asked for a reservation for after the early show(I am accustomed to eating late) and was told that the only way to "Guarantee seats BY THE STAGE was to have dinner beforehand." Since seeing Susan was our reason for the whole evening we accepted an early reservation. Arriving at Serrano I was given the AMEX slip and again told, "We'll hold your seats UP FRONT." At 6:50 we had yet to be served our main courses and were getting anxious about the time. Our food finaly came and we wolfed it down while begging for the check from three different servers. Checking in upstairs, my guest and I were shown to two seats back by the door. There were still seats for two much closer. I asked if we could move and the response from Jacob Novak, the kid seating the room, was: "You'll sit where I tell you." "You're lucky to have seats at all." I was annoyed at this rather harsh and punitive response and went to speak to the manager who said that, yes we had to sit where we're told. That the seats were assigned according to when you made your dinner reservation. If we didn't like it we were: "Welcome to leave." I happened to ask the couple BEHIND us when they had made their reservations. They said a month ago. I had only made mine last Tuesday. Questionable at best, the evening felt like extortion. The policy of assigning seats on a chronological reservation basis seems equitable enough but it was certainly not administered to the couple behind us, nor was it made clear on the phone. I also felt that the hospitality end of it was handled very poorly. Like I wrote, this has nothing to do with Susan, it just happened at her show. I HATE places where you have to eat in one room and worry whether you're going to get seated properly or timely in another room. Lucky I'm in California, so I'm not tempted to put myself through the Tin Angel experience. - -----Original Message----- From: Christopher To: believers@smoe.org Date: Sunday, April 18, 1999 7:51 PM Subject: Early Show Tin Angel (4/17) >I saw the early show at Tin Angel and the set list appears to be the same. >Susan WAS great and funny and experimented with each song in a way that >makes you listen to it with fresh ears.
