I spoke to her at this show---she's so friendly and wonderful!---and she told me she stayed at a hotel in Ashland, VA the night before the show, a place very near my home. I just never asked where she was headed from. The curiosity is driving me crazy! Thanks. I came in a bit late, so the best seats left were in the front row (which I was happy with anyway!). Setlist (from memory, so I might have the order off in places) * Flying Dreams - this is a new song to me, and I don't recall it being discussed on the list. Played on guitar, some hard strumming licks. I didn't find it as catchy or melodic as most of her other work, but it's good. * Tappan Zee - great as usual - I love the thumping guitar on this. * Last of the Good Straight Girls * Year of the Bad President * Gotta See the Body * Bring Round the Boat She then introduced the next three songs as part of "the Midwestern series" * Bonsai * Boy from East Dubuque * Sorry about Jesus * Ain't I Lonely * Time Between Trains She then moved to the piano for a few songs * Last Go Round * Late to the Dance - this is a new song. She mentioned that she was working on a group of "new old songs". Folks on the list had mentioned her interest in doing songs in the Cole Porter style, and this is one of them. A nice song (but the narrative has to do with someone who shows up to a dance at 2:15 in the morning, hoping to find her date and she's bummed when he's not there. We don't really ever learn why, if this was so important, why she shows up so late). * Movie of My Life * Much at All * Standing in My Own Way (to finish the main set) Encore * Cole Porter * Only Have Eyes for You (a capella) - her voice sounded a bit tired by this point, but it was fun to hear. The opener was Lori B. who did not impress me. I was annoyed when they announced that she was getting airplay on local KMTT, while Susan isn't getting much, to my knowledge. The talent gap was wide and obvious, IMHO. I have a bet that they will sell every seat so I am counting on all of you, within at least 200 miles (that includes NYC; that means you Gail, Pat, Kris, Kelly, John, Phil, tony(a), Paul, Margaret, Steve, Cameron, Mary@NYU, Sarah, moira, Amanda, and anyone I missed), to set aside that date NOW, and to invite all, that's right, all of your friends AND enemies (what better way to turn an enemy into a friend?). There is a great B&B just down the road with great rates, for those who want to make a weekend, night, or week of it (it's owned by an Aussie, Sherlyn). If we sell out a month in advance, I'll try to talk them into a Sunday show as well. More details to follow and I will be sure you all are the very first to get the details (including ticket information) as it becomes available. There might even be a believers party after the show. Hope you can make it Charlie (I know Philly is beyond the 200 mile limit so you could be forgiven.). Geez, am I a nut about this one or what? What can I say? Peterborough is where I first saw/met/heard SW (and Jane). And I've been a believer ever since (even before believers@smoe.com). Can you believe Rex Fowler of Aztec Two Step opened for Susan? Did any of you go to that show (3+ years ago)? So who should open for her this time? Perhaps Tom P, the host of the New London shows? I could pass on suggestions if anyone has any thoughts. (Perhaps my oldest boy will be ready to open by then.) Mark that calendar NOW; Nov. 13th in Peterborough NH. Hope to see many of you either in Nashua or Passim's in April. No I'm not going to go to both and I can't do either of the shows on the 9th, but I am bringing my boys (9 & 6; Mom's away for the weekend) and yes, they too have beards. :-) Keep believing, "The Bearded One" HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V3 #67 ****************************** --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
