Yeah! When will South Florida be graced? Last time she was here (Ft. Lauderdale) I was still in the dark about Susan. I'd gladly make the four hour trek to Tampa to hear her sing some of my favorites. Hell, I'd ravel to Tampa to hear her sing nursery rhymes, for Pete's sake... Has SW commented on who inspired that song? >>Thx, Rusty I think this is the most amazing song on TBT. The story is heart-wrenching, and the way Susan sings it is amazing. I find that every time I listen to it, I hear more in her voice. The nervous laugh, the embarassment, etc. I'm dying to know if she recorded this one over and over again until she got it right, or if she can sing that way at will. Having seen her several times in concert, I'm inclined to suspect the latter. The song is classic Susan -- subtle and powerful. I love the way the whole story hinges on that one breathlessly thrown away line, "... who doesn't beat her up ..." Although I like singing it, other songs on TBT are more fun to sing. But I would use Sorry About Jesus and Much at All from LOTGSG as exhibits A and B in making a case for Susan as an unusual talent as a song writer and vocalist. The show was pretty interesting, with topics ranging from her growing up on a farm in Iowa, her website, how 'Vincent' ended up on the record, etc. For those who may be interested, I have created a website, http://www.ehiggins.com which has the entire show available for listening to over the net. Please give it a listen, I think it turned out pretty neat. As I have never done anything like this before, there may be a few glitches, so bear with me, and send me a message so I know if you liked it. Also let me know if you have any problems in listening; if you do, I may be able to set up a mirror site to serve more people simultaneously. If this is popular with Believers (and anyone else who may wander by), I'd like to put more of her radio appearances on the web like this one. So if you have any taped Susan Werner interviews or live in-studio performances and you'd like them put on this webpage for all to enjoy, send me an email. Finally, thanks to Jeff Wasilko of Reading, MA for taping the interview (and, I think, calling in during the show)! Again, that's http://www.ehiggins.com Happy listening! I am a true Floridian! (although my ancestors are from someplace else..) But today I am writing you from Atlanta where I've been trapped for the past year and a half for school. I first saw SW at the Tampa Theater several years ago and been a believer ever since. She sure made that old theater come alive. SW may not be makin' it down the peninsula in the near future - but don't forget that she'll be here in Atlanta on Friday, Sept 4th. It's less than a 7 hour drive from Tampa! The World Cafe interview is not available in the DC area, on the web or even directly from the show's home, WXPN in Philly. Anyone have a copy? Uh, Earl, your web site lists your CD collection, but I missed SW among them. Lastly, I'm thinkin' SW's interview voice is somewhere between a Lucky Strike and a shot of Jim Beam. I once read Sinatra's voice was something like a glass of Glenlivet and a Camel. I'd love to see her perform "The Great Out There", "Tappan Zee" and "Like Bonsai", but a move to the East Coast is not in the cards for me! Hi Debbie, When I saw her in NH 11/14 she played all 3 of your favorites. She did work from a pre-planned set list (in fact she autographed it for me after the show!) but she left out 1 song from the 1st set and added a different one to the 2nd set. Also, when I was talking to her after the show I mentioned to her how my kids really love to listen to "I Still Believe" and she said she was sorry she didn't play it that night and that I should have yelled it out. She also played "Movie" saying it was a request from one of the evenings sponsors. So if you really want to hear something, try getting a note to her before the show, and if you can't, try yelling it out (but be ready for a potentially sarcastic comeback!). :-) Have fun, John HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 23:24:19 -0800 From: Canyonman Subject: Re: believers-digest V2 #193 Okay, after a couple of months on the list, someone got me de-lurk. Thanks to Morning Becomes Eclectic (particularly during Chris Douridas' tenure as host),I've discovered a *lot* of great artists over the years. I think Susan would be a great guest. As to the question: MBE isn't nationally syndicated.
