Believe it or not, there are other (less important) concerts going on here in NH than Susan's. Janis Ian was in Lebanon, NH last week, I was there and had these comparison thoughts: Janis Ian is certainly a great songwriter and incredible guitar player (but at the Folk Fest she joked about "stealing licks" from Susan). But I'm not so sure I will go to any more live concerts. Two reasons: 1)Janis and her sound person have worked out lots of funky echo effects and voice distortions that are used to enhance the effect of a particular line or phrase. Don't get me wrong - it sounds great - but at a live concert I prefer the stripped down, acoustic type sound. Studio sound effects you can hear in your own living room from the CD. That's one of the reasons I like small venues like 4 Corners - the intimate sound and setting. 2)Janis sang one or two songs that I had never heard, from CD's I don't own. She did not sing any unrecorded material. As much as we all moan about all the great SW songs that haven't made it to CD - isn't that what makes going to a concert special? What ever happened to the believers ID pin idea? I think it would be a great way to put faces with these words? As a native of Moncton, NB, Canada I accidentally found Susan through a music club free CD if you order one type of deal...the breif description looked interesting...and I was hooked. She is one of the most interesting artists both musicaly and lyricaly I have had the pleasure of listening to. No one else I know has ever heard of her, includinng the music stores in the area. I feel isolated. Are there any more beleivers in this area? If so please reply. Whoever posts the concert dates, any possibility of Susan comming north, say even to Bangor Maine which is 6 hours away? I would love to see her live in concert...what a treat1 Thanks for listening. Susan's playing in Portland, ME on Sunday, and according to www.delorme.com it's only about 470 miles (or a 7 hour drive) away from Moncton (-: Jeff HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Nov 1998 14:27:54 -0800 (PST) From: Michelle Barton Subject: isolation Mike, you're not alone! And I'm sure there are many others just like us. Nobody I know has heard of Susan except through me. I've been trying diligently to get my friends hooked, though. And it's worked on a few of them. =) But I've got to admit that I kinda like having Susan to myself (and the other believers). Don't get me wrong, I want her to be super-successful, but sometimes my selfish side takes over. --Michelle == but truth is just like time it catches up, and it just keeps going --dar williams == http://www.gin-n-tonix.com/mib/ _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Most of my friends, family, and co-workers had never heard of any of my favorites until I introduced them to the music of Susan and the other songwriters I listen to. I've dragged them out to concerts though, and now I have a small group who are ready to go hear most anyone I recommend. Robin rbhoff@ix.netcom.com NJ, USA Pray for peace. Work for justice.
