Since the record release (was it only six weeks ago?) the amount of mail passing through my machine has grown immensely, and total list membership (E-fans and believers) now exceeds 700. A quick scan reveals that believers now inhabit Canada, Japan, Holland, Hong Kong, the UK, and of course, we have Sherlyn (and I believe one other) enjoying spring in Australia while most of us brace for what could well be an interesting winter in the US. One of our newest members, Rona, from the UK notes that Susan is almost unknown in the UK. She also supplied information on a venue owned by Johnnie Dankworth and Cleo Lane, which I forwarded to Susan's management. One venue does not a tour make. But it is a place to start. From Rona: > Maybe a UK tour will become a reality one day! In the meantime it's good to > read all your views! Jane, The wonder roadie was in London and thereabouts this summer, and couldn't really find many suitable venues. My guess is that those venues do exist and that we just don't know where to look. One solution to this lies in the answer to Pat Maccallister's question: > I guess what I'm really asking is how do we, as a group, get Susan > more airplay? I wish I could tell you that you could call up your local top 40 station and request Susan, and they will play her. But that won't happen. On the other hand, there are over 600 people on the Folk_DJ list and some of them are, in fact Folk DJ's. When we went to prerelease, one post to this list got the switchboard ringing and the e-mail inbox filling up. Lots of promo copies went out. So here's what we can do to increase airplay, and help make tours in specific areas a reality: 1)Join other artist lists, and proceletize. If you like TBT, tell folks online. If you like LATA better, tell them that too. A post to, for instance, the Dar list, is read by almost 2000 subscribers. We already have some Darlings on the list (AYOT Kris R?) 2)If you have a station near you that plays folk music, call them and ask them to play Susan. If you have a station that broadcasts the World Cafe from WXPN in Philly, call them and ask them to play Susan. Hell, its worth a try to call your local AAA station and ask them to play Susan. If they need a copy of TBT, have them e-mail me charlies@voicenet.com. We'll take care of them. 3)Drag a non-Susan fan with you to a show, then have them rave to their friends. 4)Put your favorite Susan quote in your sig. 5)refer people to susanwerner.com 6)if you have a venue you would like to see Susan at, drop me a line. Please be aware, it is not always possible to honor these requests. Susan has her own schedule, as well as the published one, and as much as we would like to see her in our hometowns, it sometimes isn't possible. I forward all such requests to Jane Paul, who handles the mail on the road, and to Susan's manager here in Philly, who forwards the request, or more likely, calls flemtam. If you would like to have Susan for a house concert, please contact flemtam directly. There are lots of things that you all can think of to help with this effort. As many have mentioned Susan has a lot of material that did not make it to TBT, and it isn't because the material isn't strong, there just was no room. And just for everybodies information, and speaking purely as a guitar player and sometimes singer, I love TBT. In other buisness, Marty Young, San Francisco believer and graphics maven has accepted the post of Webmaster for susanwerner.com. Please be gentle with her as we continue to build this site as a resource for the fan and for the music community at large. We all have our hands full right now, but if you have concerns you can reach Marty at myoung@usweb.com I hope to be meeting with some of you folks at the TLA gig on Novemeber 28th in Philadelphia. And for the New York believers, Susan will be at the Bottom Line both November 5th and 11th with John Gorka and Dan Bern respectively. See you soon! I am also in the Boston area and listen to river 92.5. I consistently hear the music of new artists being played (most recently Melissa Ferrick) however have not yet heard Susan's music being played. I sent a request to the station and they replied to my request by stating they are not sure she's recorded her most accessible radio song yet. They promise to keep any eye on her and an ear to her new cd. I think this is a station that could really make a difference. I encourage anyone in the Boston area to e-mail, call or write to WXRV to let them know how much you would like to hear Susan's music. I talked briefly with Jane at the show at Emerson Umbrella in Concord who confirmed this is how we, as fans, could really help. > believers-digest Thursday, October 29 1998 Volume 02 : Number 174 > > In Today's believer's digest: > ----------------- > Re: believers-digest V2 #173 [Kris Richardson ] > New Believer!
