The old place was quite nice and was > condsidered an excellent venue for both the performer and the > concert-goer. the new b'mere is much bigger (it's in a converted bowling alley) but remains an excellent venue. the sound is generally excellent, although the acoustics of the room make it less crystalline than the old room. they continue to enforce a "no-talking" policy while "performances are on stage" [sic] -- it's one of the best places to actually >listen< to live folk, rock or country, and one of the worst places to have a rowdy good time (seeing the nields there was pretty incongruous, for example.) the menu and selection of potables are >vastly< improved from the old joint. there is still a record store attached with an interesting eclectic selection with lots of great local artists, bluegrass, folk, country, etc. there's a bunch more info available on their website, www.birchmere.com - - oh,no!! you've just read mail from doug = dmayowel@access.digex.net - - and dmw@mwmw.com ... get yr pathos at http://www.pathetic-caverns.com/ - - new reviews! tunes, books, flicks, etc. HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 20:02:07 -0400 From: Christopher Russell Subject: Birchmere This is a new location for the Birchmere which is one of NOVA's premiere showcases for Folk/Country music. It moved within the past year to six months. In addition to the stellar talent Charlie mentioned it has also played host to Mary Chapin Carpenter and Johhny Cash to name two. The Birchemere does serve food and drink but it is primarily a listening venue. You may not talk or chat it up during the sets as is possible in some nightclub atmospheres. They frown on that. It is a sensational place to hear music. Buy tix early. It sells quick. Christopher BELIEVER and NOVA ex pat. Lawn seats, bucket o'chicken and cold beer. Can it get any better? (It could certainly be a little cooler, but you can't have everything). _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? It's where I first heard Susan, opening for David Wilcox, when she pretty much blew him off the stage (no small feat - he was in his prime). They recently relocated to a new space, a couple of blocks from the old one (both on Mount Vernon Ave, between Glebe Rd. and ... uh ... Columbia Pike). The new space is a dramatic improvement. Capacity is about 500 in the concert hall, at tables which are fairly tightly packed, though not quite as much so as the old place. They serve a full menu, which is better than the overpriced bar food at the old place. There's also a large bar/pool table/hanging out area outside the concert hall, an a microbrewery, though I'm not sure that's up and running yet. Info online at http://www.birchmere.com or call 703-549-5919. Advance tickets in person at the Birchmere box office (no service charge) or from TicketB*stard (no comment). - -steve HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V2 #102 ******************************* --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------- This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
