A problem prevented that procedure in this case This message is from Andy Asher ) Take it away Andy! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Well here it goes, I've attempted to s*bscribe but I don't think I was very successful, time will tell. My name is Andy and I heard and met Susan at the Chickory Coffeehouse in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. a couple months ago. I was so moved it was like she just opened up a window to her soul and let me right in. Pehaps even more amazing to me was how I related to so many of her thoughts & feelings conveyed in her music. That may sound trite but it's the truth. I know a good writer or storyteller can draw people into their story but in Susan's music I heard a depth of sincerity that was well frankly a little disconcerting. Damn, she knows me and I her.I was fortunate enough to meet her and I spoke all to briefly to her I had the stongest urge to invite her to get some waffles but I didn't(where waffles came from I'll never know) and that I truly regret. What a nice person. What a heart. What a mind. What a voice!. I signed up for a e-mail mailing list but it never came. I took delivery of my own computer 2 days ago(I was using one at a college near me I frequent) and here I am hoping to connect to find out where she might be again near me. I'm listening to "The Last of the Good Straight Girls" as I write this and continue to be captivated by her voice. This is from " The Bearded One". I'm actually starting to feel useful! Or.... is this a test?) > Had you been writing your own songs when you were studying opera? > >A: I had, but I didn't take them seriously. (Susan continued in a stuffy >accent): Because of course opera is the "great music, the serious music," >and songwriting is a lesser art, in some people's opinion. And temporarily >in my opinion, but then I went to see a Nanci Griffith show, and she really >changed my mind, because she was writing songs about Texas, and me being >from Iowa, this great plains kind of epic song that really resonated with >me. And I thought this is legit, this counts as much as "Aida." That's art, >sure, but this is art too, this counts, this works. Such a smart woman and it took a Nancy Griffith concert to make her see another great truth. Just goes to show you... Thank you Nancy, Susan, Sinead, "Jane" and all you other great folks out there giving us folks great folk, jazz, "Country", Cole Porter,... You bring a smile every day.
