True, but let's face it: for music, RA sucks. I can't imagine there being any bootleg market for something that sounds like it came down bad phone line in an electrical storm. I think an RA concert would be fun, and would pose about zero risk for piracy. Who would buy it? Susan's fan base is hardly comparable to Megadeath's, where such worries might be more likely. Even if somebody did establish an underground FTP site with the whole show available in RA, would that stop any fan from buying the album? I doubt it. Would the site get ratted out in a heartbeat by one of us? Probably - who wants to see Susan ripped off? Bottom line: Susan's fan base just isn't a good market for pirates (commercial or otherwise) and even if it were, RA isn't the right vehicle. I think a bigger issue might be that, perfectionist that she is, Susan might not like her work shoved through the RA cheese-grater. Cheers, Bob PS If anybody works for RA, please don't send your lawyers my way. For real-time audio over a modem line, it is a remarkable acheivement. It's great for listening to The Daily Feed or NPR News. It just ain't hi-fi. We arrived a bit before the show was supposed to start and heard the opening band still doing their sound check (never a good sign). The opening act (Too Human) got started a bit late and did a rather uninspired set. After a short break and some desserts, Susan took the stage and treated us to an hour and 15 minutes of standard and new songs. It was a difficult audience and venue, but she got through it OK. There were 2 new songs that I hadn't heard a month before , but I wasn't able to get to the set list before someone else took it...My personal favorite "Movie of My Life" continues to get larger and larger and larger... (-: After the set and helping Jane pack up the gear, Susan and Jane asked us to join them for a beer. We were supposed to meet them at 'The Pub' (literally), but apparently downtown Stratford closes up early as the doors were locked at 11pm. We trucked back to the church and decided to just retire to the hotel. We followed Jane (who we feel is qualified to drive in the next Formula 1 race, should one come to this continent again) back to their hotel and helped load in the gear. As we walked toward the bar, it sounded quite loud, but as we got closer it was painfully obvious that it was Karaoke night! Susan was quite amused! We found a table in the back (next to an "Arkanoid, Revenge of Doh!" tabletop video game). Jane and I wandered off to the bar, and Susan went on a mission to find a Karaoke songbook. We flipped thru the songbook, and Susan decided to start out the evening with Barbara Streisand's "People Who Need People", so Jane ran the request sheet to the very annoying disk-jockey while Susan helped us find songs to sing. Meredith was convinced to sing Nena's "99 Luftballoons" while I settled on Devo's "Whip It". No amount of arm twisting could get Jane or Woj to volunteer. Some time was passed feeding quarters to the pinball machine and the Arkanoid game, and then Susan's name was called. We could hear Susan ask the DJ how the microphone worked, and he was very helpful and showed her how to hold it (while we were laughing our asses off). As the song started, she stumbled thru the first few pages of lyrics and miraculously started singing better and better. At the climatic end of the song, she had totally let loose and everyone in the place was watching the stage... Susan exited to a huge round of applause. We drank and talked a bit more, while Meredith and I schemed to disappear as our names were called. We were too slow, as soon Meredith's name was called and Susan walked her to the stage to offer moral support. It didn't take long for her to find a subtle groove and get folks clapping along, and she did an admirable job with a song that was a bit above her range (-: I figured I'd have some time to plot my escape, but my name was called as Meredith was walking off the stage. All I can say is I had a good time, and I hope folks had a good laugh (-: Susan revisted the songbook and decided to do "Midnight Train to Georgia" as her encore. People had been walking by asking if the was going to sing again and offering congrats (little did they know...). When the time came, Susan managed to find a couple of 'Pips' who had been standing at the bar to back her up. She did an absolutely amazing rendition of the song (and her Pips were pretty good too). Near the end of the song, Susan was channeling Gladys Knight and folks were shouting their approval. When the song was over, the DJ uttered in amazement, "Susan, Who the fuck are you?" and we were all on the floor laughing our asses off... Susan walked through the now enraptured crowd, and we made our exit as it was getting late. Jane wanted to give a couple of Susan's tapes to the 'Pips', so she ran back to the bar with the gifts. A few minutes later, Jane returned to the room exclaiming "We can sell some CDs here", so over Susan's protests she returned to the bar with merchandise in hand. Jane returned, lighter a few CDs. - -Jeff HELP! owner-believers@smoe.org Send mail to believers@smoe.org Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V2 #90 ****************************** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This has been a posting from the Susan Werner believers-digest To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message
