It's been about a year since I was lucky enough to catch Susan's show, but she said then that she was thinking of calling the new album "Long Time Between Trains" after one of her new tunes. I thought that was a perfect title. And very true! I'm patiently waiting for it. I've been sitting here on this train station bench for a long time. :>)) Cheryl - -************************************************************************************* - -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list - -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers"in the body of the message. - -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org - -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com - -Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com - -************************************************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Apr 1998 08:45:11 +0100 From: Suzan Lipson/Debra Schwartz Subject: iron horse Morning, Yep susan is scheduled to pay at the iron horse in noho on august 16th. thats also my all time favorite place to see her though was anyone else at the Cafe Lena in Saratoga Springs NY show about 3 years ago...that was quite a show! (one of her very common places to play) Last question first: 7/31/98 The Iron Horse Northampton MA 413-584-3177 7PM My colleage Tom Neff from the darlist would probably not agree with this advice, but your best source for news on the Sooze is http://www.flemtam.com/sw-itin.html which is Susan's booking agency. Now for the second question: I don't know, but I can hazard a few guesses from a conversation I had with Jane a few weeks ago. This is all unofficial, like that info you got yesterday from the Charlie impersonator. The plan is to record in Nashville. Now don't all freak at once here but if all has gone according to plan, Susan might actually be there now. I have some people keeping an eye out for her. The word from there is that while there was major destruction, it isn't like Nashville is gone completely. The several people I have been in contact with are in the music industry and their facilities remain untouched. But this might delay things a little , or a lot. BTW, if you can spare a moment, say a prayer, spin a wheel, invoke a tree (in my own Druidic tradition) send a good wish to all the people of the devastated southland. The plan is for a CD to be released in early August. Again, please take this with a grain of salt. The situation is still in a state of flux and as of my last conversation with Jane there is still no signed contract. To all the new folk on the list, welcome! FYI, I post bookings to the list during the last week of the month, which will give dates about 6 weeks out, so you will get both a long term and short term reminder. (one of her very common places to >>play) Chris, I live in Amherst and have seen Susan twice at the Iron Horse. The last time was just in February or early March, so I'm not sure she'll be back too soon. She was fabulous. She gets better every time I see her. She has now moved past Cheryl Wheeler and Jonathan Edwards on my list of favorite in-concert performers. I even took my two teen-agers, aged 13 and 15, and though they will both tell you they don't like folk music, they loved Susan. My daughter especially thought Susan was "cool." I think "Maybe if I Sang Cole Porter" is one of the best ballads written in recent years, and Suan does this kind of song as well as (if not better than) anyone else around. My current favorite jazz chantruese is Diana Krall (whose latest CD is really special) -- I've wished I could hear her sing "Cole Porter," but I'd much rather hear Susan really doing Cole Porter! (well, doing his songs...he's been dead for over 20 years) There are some other good "standards" albums out there -- I like Carly Simon's versions, and those of Linda Ronstadt...wish Cheryl or Nanci would do so, as well. Okay, I'll shut up. And that's the way we like her. A bit snarky too, she is ;) Waaaaay back in the summer of '96, Susan was talking about calling her new album _A Long Time Between Trains_, but in the couple times that i've seen her since then i haven't heard her play that song again (although some here have reported hearing her perform it) nor have i heard her mention it as an Album title...guess we'll just have to wait... At the two last Susan concerts that i attended, she mentioned wanting to do an album of standards, which thrilled me to no end because i think she always does a fabulous job at the piano during her shows when she performs most of the standards and standard-like originals...I talked to her about the standards and she said that she'd be psyched to do the album (which would mix originals and classics) because she loves doing them. (has anyone else noticed Susan's endearing habit of always saying "you know what i mean?" when she's talking to you? it's so cute *grin*) I miss the Iron Horse. I'm stuck in MD right now (and i can't make the Wolf Trap show because i'm working that day at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra's concert at the Meyerhoff selling cds for my record store), but i'll be back in MA by the end of summer, so i'll be hauling ass to Noho regularly again :) Where's susan playing in MD in May? I forgot...
