Susan is currently travelling with 2 Martin D-35's and a Parker Fly. Although Susan's guitar may in fact have been customized in some way, it remains basically a Parker Fly and yes, Pat Martino does have one of these as part of his arsenal. The Parker has some unique attributes which lend themselves particularly well to finger style players. The guitar has both piezo and magnetic pickups, which allows the player to better control the sound characteristics. It is light. It has a relatively low action as set from the factory, although I haven't examined Susan's to find out if hers is set differently. The sustain on the Parker is much better, with less of an initial amplitude spike and a much longer sustain, due to the rigidity of construction from nut to bridge. Acoustic guitars are built to vibrate, which tends to dampen the sustain after the string is initially struck. Volume is more dependant on the control settings than on the force of playing, quite the opposite of an acoustic. I think this is a pretty nice bunch of people, respectful of different opinions, at least, that's what Ive seen. Welcome to active participation Doctor. > Buttons, T-shirts etc are very nice - and I'm all for supporting your > favorite music (My 'XPN t-shirt won't live through too many more washes), > but god forbid that you should have to actually talk to a stranger to find > out who they are or what they support or what listserv they belong to... OK, quick story. I'm at a Sarah McLachlan concert in Philly at the core States spectrum wearing my "I think I've got my shirt on backwards "Dar Williams shirt and while walking thru the crowd a woman behind me says "Oh, Dar Williams, I really like her, are you on her list?", and I say "Yeah, and I run a list for another woman artist" and she says "who?" I say "Susan Werner", she says "are you Charlie?" (Hi Amanda!)So far, she is the only believer I have metother than some Philly fans I brought with me. > Maybe I'm missing the point, but why be exclusive? I see these pin posts > and I imagine a reception line of pin-wearers eagerly greating other > pin-wearers and tragically ignoring the rest of Susan's audience. I agree, exclusivity, and even worse, elitism, hmm, how should I put this....IMHO they suck! And I don't think it is anyone's intent to be exclusive. I would submit that, as illustrated in the above, identifiers can tend to stimulate interest in the group. For quite awhile this has been an almost silent group, except for the occasional (and I must say, extremely eloquent) reviews and stories. In my view (feel free to disagree, everyone) discussion groups are communities, and communities tend to operate at their best when they work to achieve some goal. Some of the things internet e-mail discussion groups have accomplished are increased sales for the artists, increased airplay for artists, and greater recognition of musical forms that are outside of the mainstream. Within the groups, the production of group identifiers such as buttons, pins , bumper stickers, stamps, and most interestingly, tribute albums, give the groups cohesiveness, and a sense of accomplishment, as a group. I don't see anything wrong with that. Please don't take this as a flame, I fully understand your point, and I agree that no one should be excluded, or feel that they are. I would hope that some group identifier would have the opposite effect, that it would encourage others to become "believers" by stimulating discussion, and an invitation by each of us to those that we meet, to join us, and add their input. Nothing would make me happier than handling 30 bounces a day from 1000 believers! > What do you think? Guess you know that now! And by the way, all of my 'XPN shirts are about shot. I guess I'll have to forgo the World Cafe album next year and scarf another shirt (I actually outgrew one of my shirts ;-) Charlie Sweeney (=}===# Virtual Guitarist_Something Black http://www.voicenet.com/~charlies "There's no money for food or medicine or a place that's warm and dry but there's one point three billion dollars for a plane that doesn't fly" from "Explain it to the Children"-Something Black - -************************************************************************************* - -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list - -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers"in the body of the message. - -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org - -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com - -Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com - -************************************************************************************* ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V2 #23 ****************************** -************************************************************************************* -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the -message. -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com -Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com -*************************************************************************************
