Could we have the > classic pink trangle with the word "Believer" inside? There's a fine line between showing you support gay rights and showing you're gay. I'm all for gay rights but I don't want to advertise I'm gay when I'm not. Badawi) Subject: Dear Believers, One of the things I love most about Susan's shows (and the "folk" circuit in general) is that they bring together such a beautiful variety of people. At the last show I saw at Mays Chapel, there was a quartet of two couples seated behind my wife and me. They may have been retired, for they chatted happily of midday adventures with friends and one another. "You wouldn't believe what happened last week," the lady whose view I was trying not to hinder said. "My goodness, I haven't spoken to you in an age!" As someone who daily grapples with the cynicism of "our nation's capital," I love that a week can be an age between friends. Only at a Susan Werner show can I see parents with their 12-year-old-or-so baseball-fan son enjoying an aria (sp?) from an otherwise unknown (to me) French opera. Only at a Susan Werner show can I hear an artist's artist cast a lament for lost love for at least the thousandth time and, with her, re-visit memories of Decembers and Mays past. (At the Birchmere in December, Susan was not with us when she counted beads with Saint Mary of Regret.) Only after a Susan Werner show can one person's sometimes overwhelming talent keep me awake for three or more late-night, mid-atlantic, interstate hours (sans caffeine). At the first intersection after we leave a Susan Werner venue, I always turn to my dear wife, Tracy, and say how beautiful it is to see anyone do their job so well. But I know I am still ignorant of most things. Tracy knows more -- much more -- about why it was a pleasure to be there. In her years as an oncology nurse, she's looked into fading eyes that, as they fade, become wiser. Tracy is more a believer than I. I know that Susan would say, Tracy has done her job well. I know that she would say the same for all of us if we had the chance to meet. We are all, it is true, believers. But we believe in different things. That we can be brought together under one roof in a chapel or a bar is a tribute, not only to Susan Werner, but to the source of all beauty, apparent and not. I suppose when we visit with Susan (she under lights and we awestruck), we attend the sky. I hope that the sky we all share will remain one of many colors and many beliefs. I love the idea of wearing a pin to Susan's shows. How about we represent our own beliefs with individual pins, rather than uniform ones? That, too, would be in the spirit of Susan's songs. Will you want to know me when you see the pin I wear at the Tin Angel show next week? Yours, Samer Badawi "Hearts with one purpose alone Through summer and winter seem Enchanted to a stone To trouble the living stream." Hi fellow believers. I'm relatively new to the list and to Susan in general. Up until now I've just been lurking, so I thought I'd break the ice. I know this will probably shock most, but I have not yet seen Susan live. I first saw her on a Peter, Paul & Mary special and have been a fan ever since. It only took a moment... I was considering going to the NYC show, but was apprehensive because I'm not familiar with the venue (I know, I know, a true "believer" would do anything and go anywhere to see Susan). I'm sure all the tickets have been gobbled up by now. Is it general admission? I crave the intensity you all say she delivers, so I hope I get to see Susan very soon. I'm definitely in favour of the pin idea. I also agree that it should represent all believers, not just a select group. However, individual pins defeat the purpose of identifying other believers. Whatever the decision, "Believer" should be on the pin. It seems like it'll be hard to reach an agreement on this one. Still no info from the Susan side so I assume this is OK with her.
