Ticket sales are a little light at Club Passim, so we're just trying to drum up some business. It's really tough to sell out for four shows! >Hi Darlings, Tom has graciously given me permission to post this to the list. Susan Werner will be appearing at Club Passim in Boston on Friday 10/24 and Saturday 10/25 at 7 and 10 pm. Opening for her on Friday will be Deb Pasternak, and on Saturday, Mica Richards will open. Tickets are $10, and a $2 discount is available with a valid Harvard ID card. Tickets are available in advance only, by stopping by the club, or by calling 617-492-7679. If you have never seen Susan in live performance, please do yourself a favor and catch this show. Susan is one of the most dynamic performers around, and her repertoire ranges from funny social commentary to poignant torch songs. > On a sad day for folk music, many have learned of the cancellation of Gene Shay's folk music program on WHYY in Philadelphia. Gene has been a steadfast proponent of folk music, a supporter of rising stars, like Dar, a founder of the Philadelphia Folk Festival, and a friend to local musicians of all genres. He even let me play on his show a couple times :-). This is the latest episode in the ongoing Philly radio shuffle, which has seen the loss of WFLN, our commercial classical station, and the format change of WRTI to half Jazz, half classical which has upset both sets of listeners. Hopefully, WXPN will see fit to take up the slack by extending Gene's hours. Andy's (named for the woman who runs the bar\restaurant\performance room) is a pretty cool place...it's in the historic district of Chestertown and the front is a bar (which seemed to be populated by mostly students from nearby Washington College) while the backroom seems to be like a living room with double doors shutting it off from the bar...there were lots of folding chairs in between a bevy of sofas, couches and other assorted chairtypes...pretty homey and comfy Susan Piper opened for her...i wasn't overly impressed by her...a little bland for my taste...but still had a great voice and some witty songs... Svetlana caught me walking out of the men's room and again noted my hair (it's purple right now), remembering it from the Circle of Friends show a couple weeks back... This is her setlist as best as i can recall it (she was on for about an hour and 10 minutes): Standing in My Own Way Yes to You (Tappan Zee) Just a Mistake Bad at Love (Most Intimate of Friends) Last of the Good Straight Girls St. Mary's of Regret Petaluma Afternoon Bonsai Au Naturel Ain't Misbehaving Late for the Dance Much At All Society Ball Pleasure to Be Here encore: So Heavy this is pretty much the same setlist she did the last time i saw her....but it's still great to hear her do anything :) I talked to her after the show (she wandered outside after and i found her when i exited the bar), gave her a hug (from you and me, Carolyn ;) ), and talked about stuff like what i'm up to, how her short-story class is going (she told me about one of the stories she wrote...it's a real downer of a story *grin*), her haircut (she got a good deal of hair chopped off and it's not so permy anymore), her emotions in performing... it was a darn great night...this has been a pretty good two weeks...Sarah M twice last week, Susan tonight, Dar Saturday...ahhhhh Paul Kim - -************************************************************************************* - -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list - -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers"in the body of the message. - -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org - -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com - -Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com - -************************************************************************************* ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V1 #52 ****************************** -************************************************************************************* -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the -message. -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com -Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com -*************************************************************************************
