I am new (as of last week) to the list. I had the *huge* pleasure of seeing Susan for the first time last Sunday at The Cherry Tree in Philly - I have three of her CDs/tapes, but for various and sundry reasons, had never gotten around to seeing her live. I was in awe not only of her musicianship, but also her ability to connect with the audience in a way that was very spontaneous, funny and heart-felt. It was truly a compelling evening for me, the most hopeful yet tentative of fledgling singer-songwriters. I've taken songwriting and performing workshops with Cris Williamson the last two summers, one this past July at Hollyhock in British Columbia, and one last summer at the Omega Institute in upstate New York, where Susan herself took a songwriting workshop with Jimmie Dale Gilmore this past summer. But I've yet to get off the dime and do anything further with the wisdom I gained during the wonderful, nurturing two weeks I've had in the light of Cris's benificence. I think last week's concert has inspired me to do something - anything - that would lead me back on the path of being able to connect with people through the gifts of words and music like Susan did at the Cherry Tree. We will see... Speaking of gifts of words and music, I was intrigued to see the discussion today about Greg Simon's origins. Greg is a friend of mine, so maybe I can help with what I remember to be his life's flight path (I tried to call him to confirm this, but got the machine): I think he was born in Queens, New York and has been in Delaware for the last dozen or so years. No Iowa stop that I remember - I think he and Susan crossed paths in Philly. For what it's worth, here's one more variation on The Great Out There- he once sang the first line of the bridge to me as "I was born in a small town." Greg's a wonderful performer in his own right (as well as an awesome poet), so people in the Philly/Wilmington/Newark, DE area should check him out when he's around. Thanks for letting me introduce myself, and I look forward to participating in more conversations. The first time I heard Susan perform that song (several years ago now -- hard to believe), she mentioned that it was written by him, then sang it with "Iowa" in it, so I made an incorrect assumption. This is the first time I've heard that the text was changed. Sorry to mislead people. I stand corrected. That's what happens when you go this long without a Susan fix...:) Rosemary, best of luck with your songwriting! I'm truly in awe of anyone who has the courage to even try to do it. It must take a lot out of you... Also really glad to hear that Greg Simon lives around here (I'm in Allentown, PA, so it's a bit of a stretch, but I'll take what I can get). If "Great Out There" is indicative of his work, I'd love to hear more... Again, my apologies for my ignorance... *Sigh* Leslie Dreyer Kalra Techies, Inc. lbd@techiesinc.com - -************************************************************************************* - -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list - -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers"in the body of the message. - -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org - -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com - -Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com - -************************************************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 1997 13:54:34 -0700 From: Susan Krauss Subject: SW on Christine Lavin Tribute I got my copy of the Volume 1 of Big League Babe - A Tribute to Christine Lavin today. Susan sings Christine's song "Replaced" which is one of Christine's serious songs. It's beautiful - just a gorgeous rendition. The rest of the CD is incredible. Check out Cheryl Wheeler's contribution - - the only non-Christine Lavin written song on the record and the introduction to that song is worth the price of the entire record. I got mine through Christine's web site http://www.christinelavin.com (I have no financial interest in this - I've been a fan of Chrstine's for about 15 years). susan Susan Krauss Krauss Research mailto:skrauss@hooked.net http://www.wenet.net/~skrauss - -************************************************************************************* - -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list - -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers"in the body of the message. - -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org - -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com - -Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com - -************************************************************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 Sep 1997 07:21:18 +1000 (EST) From: Sherlyn Koo Subject: Delaware Morning folks, Rosemary Connors said: >Speaking of gifts of words and music, I was intrigued to see the >discussion today about Greg Simon's origins. No Iowa stop that I remember - I think he and Susan OH. You guys were talking about Delaware the *state*? (I still have no idea where that is... on the east coast someplace?) Because, you know, there's a town called Delaware in Iowa. No, I'm not so obsessed as to have found that out for myself - it was someone else. Really. :) Anyway, Delaware IA is right near Manchester, which is where Susan grew up, I think? Or, at least, the two towns are only an inch apart on my screen here, so they must be close together. :) Anyway, I should go get some caffeine into me before I become even more incoherent...
