And happy! I somehow hadn't recognized how really gifted and charming she is. I bought the live CD after the show (which I was missing), and whoever had written in to the list that it conveys her magic well is right. The friend who was with me had never heard of her and enjoyed the show tremendously; she listens largely to classical and jazz, I think, so I was glad she was so pleased. Susan's wry observations about Houston are entertaining. It had never occurred to me that it's unusual to be able to purchase beer at the gas station. (Well, I don't like beer so probably never noticed it for sale anyway.) She should have been here when people just drove around with opened beers in their cars. But I don't know why she said she didn't see any cowboy hats here "anymore": Houston was really never Western, but rather Southern and coastal, though now mainly people from out of state (not very Texxy at all, and not Southern anymore). Dallas and Fort Worth were cowboy hats, etc. Pretty much the only time one sees cowboy hats in Houston is during the rodeo, which is rather a performance. When she came here a couple of years ago, she opened with a joke about how she used to date someone involved with the football program at Rice University. When she first arrived, a receptionist said, "Welcome to Raaaaaahce!" The friend who was with me found this condescending and said she should be grateful that someone was so friendly and gracious, but I thought it was pretty funny (and I went to Rice). The football program never much represented Rice anyway. - -************************************************************************************* - -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list - -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers"in the body of the message. - -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org - -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com - -Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com - -************************************************************************************* ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V1 #30 ****************************** -************************************************************************************* -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the -message. -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com -Susan's CD's are available on your desktop at songs.com -*************************************************************************************
