This was the first store I know of to promote the "listening station/listening bar" concept. They set up stations around the store, each based on a particular theme. A popular theme is to get a well known musician to pick some of their favorite albums. This is fun because you get to find out what, for example, Lyle Lovett likes to listen to. You also get to discover new artists this way. Anyway, Susan Werner's LotGSG was on the "staff picks" shelf, with a comment that said something like "when you feel like giving up, "Still Believe" will keep you going." I liked the first track a lot - and, of course, Still Believe, and all the other tracks I scanned through seemed solid. I bought the album and Susan Werner has since become one of my favorite artists. The only time I've seen her live was when she opened for Joan Armatrading in Berkeley last year. Her live performance was really good - with some new songs thrown in. My only regret is that the set was too short. We keep hoping that she'll return to the west coast. As for favorite songs, I especially like "No One Here but Me", "LotGSG" - - I like the version on the LotGSG album best, "Still Believe", "Just the Band", "Shackamaxon Street" - (where is Shackamaxon Street?), and "Ain't I Lonely". It's hard to pick, because they're all good. I didn't much like "MSN" when I first heard, but it's grown on me over time. Other artists that I like include Lyle Lovett, Indigo Girls, and Shawn Colvin. As I mentioned before, I now live in Seattle. I work for a small software company. My wife is an architect. We're pretty much "folk-illiterates", but I look forward to learning more about Susan and any artists that complement what she does through the list. I remember looking for it a year or two ago and it couldn't be purchased. I ended up calling Golden Guru to get MSN, and asked about it, and they said they had a few cassettes around, and that I could buy it. I did and am a happy camper, but does anyone know what the earlier problem was?
