(Now it's Bi-monthly and Tom is an occasional guest rather then the evenings coordinator). Of course she was wonderful and after listening to her I decided that I probably shouldn't try to sing anymore since my warbling could never compare to her amazing voice.( I still have this thought whenever I see her perform although luckily for the rest of our band, I have yet to quit singing .....Hi, Charlie ! ) The coolest part of coming across an artist so early in her career is that I've had the opportunity to watch her transformation into a seasoned performer and have been introduced to lots of other good music along the way. Following Susan to various clubs and Folk Festivals is how I found Beth Williams, Joseph Parsons, Ben Arnold (Anyone else remember Song Splash dates), Garry Lee (who led me to June Rich), Dar Williams (UM Concerts under the Stars), Greg Brown , Dan Bern & Martin Sexton (I seriously think Susan should do a tour with Martin Sexton.... they are GREAT together !), Jay Scot, Zan Gardiner and I THINK Catie Curtis. So far, she's never led me astray..... Thank you, Susan :-) ! If anyone else wants to pipe up with their list of musicians that Susan introduced them to, I for one would be interested to hear about it. That's how the word gets around on the Folk Circuit. Another fun topic for conversation is favorite songs/lyrics and why they touch you. Here's some of my favorites in no particular order; Born a little Late- "These folk music consumers, birkinstockin' baby boomer's they say you're way too young and you dress completely wrong". (I too dress "completely wrong" for folk music... good thing the band has moved further into AAA format over the years) Uncle John- "You can love whoever you wanna love"( I love this whole song and the message behind it !) Tappan Zee-( I can't pick one line.... the song is full of great lyrics !) Maybe if I sang Cole Porter-( I don't think there is a song out there that captures that desperate "beat yourself up better then anyone else can" feeling of when you love someone who doesn't give you the time of day. "I drank your favorite drink and then some, that just made me want to more"..... now THAT is a classic line !) Rubber Glove- "You can't come to dinner improperly dressed" :-) That's all for now...... Courtney Malley "Maybe if my heels were higher, maybe if I grew my hair, maybe if I wore those Spanish earrings..." - -************************************************************************************* - -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list - -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers" or "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message. - -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org - -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com - -************************************************************************************* ------------------------------ End of believers-digest V1 #9 ***************************** -************************************************************************************* -This has been a posting from the Susan Werner "believers" list -To unsubscribe send mail to Majordomo@smoe.org with "unsubscribe believers" or "unsubscribe believers-digest" in the body of the message. -To post to the list send mail to believers@smoe.org -To reach a human, send to charlies@voicenet.com -*************************************************************************************
