Jill FM is a station that plays 70s-current music, and they're having a contest to win tickets. http://www.927jillfm.com/common/more.php?m=33&r=12 It's nice to hear they're playing her stuff on a station aside from smooth jazz :) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Oct 2010 11:43:24 -0400 From: "Steve O'Hearn" Subject: Basia's guide to Annapolis Well cool! Got my tix long ago for next weeks Nov 3 Ram's Head show in Annapolis (Maryland, USA) which sold out, so theyve added a second prior to that, on Oct 31, and that's almost sold out as well. And come to think of it ... I guess that means Basia and company will probably be hanging around the Annapolis area for a few days ... Ram's Head is downtown near the city docks, "ego alley" and the yachts and yacht club and the Naval Academy, marinas, historic building, site of where George Washington himself surrendered his commission and took the action that broke the trend of nation's, shifting us from kings to presidents, all within walking distance of the Ram's Head. Beautiful area. AND - if she's reading any of this - Basia, the food at Ram's Head is great, but it looks like you have a couple of days. Does the embassy know youre coming? They should theyre included in the list below. - - Steve ANNAPOLIS: - - Best quick meal before a show is Rams Head itself, great food. - - Better alternative is across the street from Ram's Head: Luna Blue. - - Great restaurants with a view: - Best dessert and coffee with a view: Chart House, but only if you sit in the lobby, no view in the main restaurant (http://www.chart-house.com) - Great view: Carroll's Creek Cafi, outdoor seating, weather permitting (http://www.carrolscreek.com) - Best view: Severn Inn, great indoor or outdoor seating for views (http://www.severninn.com) - Most secluded with a view: Sams Waterfront Cafi (samsonthewaterfront.com }) inside a gated community, just tell the guard youre going to Sams, they will let you in. - - Best steak in town: Ruths Chris Steakhouse (http://www.ruthschris.com). No water views, just a great ambience for steak. Great on a cold night. Across the street from the Chart House. - - Best Halloween thing to do: http://www. ghostsofannapolis.com - I've done this, a walking tour, generally only 15 people total or so in attendance, walking around with a costume-themed tour guide explaining the spooky stories from early American history, at the colonial-era buildings where the stories supposedly happened, all within walking distance of where you'll be, a fun and eerie way to learn a little about local and some national history. Must call in advance to know where and when to show and meet them. - - Best American history-related location: inside the state capital house building, the room in which George Washington surrendered his commission, the act that marked the moment America broke the mold of king-rule to president-rule: http://www.aoc.gov/cc/art/rotunda/washington_resigning.cfm - a five minute walk from the Ram's Head. (Note: Annapolis was once the capital city of the United States, most people don't know that.) NEARBY WEST OF ANNAPOLIS WASHINGTON, DC (45 min drive): - - Best full day trip out of town: downtown Washington DC: White House (visits require some advance planning), Washington Monument, brand new Capital visitor's center, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, and the (somewhat spooky at night) Korean, (somber and moving) Vietnam, and (relatively) brand new majestic National WW II War Memorials. None have admission charges last I checked. There's also the International Spy Museum, Newseum, the list goes on and on. If you visit the National Cathedral, be sure to visit the little rooms in the tower above for the view of DC, its amazing, but easy to completely miss. Ask for it. AND OF COURSE: Polish Embassy in Washington DC: http://www.washington.polemb.net/ - - If the ambassador doesn't already know you're coming, you should contact them: http://www.washington.polemb.net/index.php?documentName=contact - - Heres a recent blurb from local media about his new home: http://tinyurl.com/2g2rlcl - see Hillarys New Neighbors. NEARBY- NORTH OF ANNAPOLIS BALTIMORE (45 min drive): - - Best place to get lost in a large fun beautiful waterfront place with plenty to do: Inner Harbor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_Harbor ) - - Best restaurant experience in the Inner Harbor: Fogo do Chaos http://www.fogodechao.com/ - - Best uber-impressive very exclusive restaurant with over-the-top service, the movers-and-shakers hangout in Baltimore: Center Club (http://www.centerclub.org ) members only but tell them who you are, and if that doesnt work, contact me, I can get you in. : ) NEARBY EAST OF ANNAPOLIS EASTERN SHORE - - Paul Reed Smith (guitar manufacturer) world headquarters is about 15 minutes from the Rams Head, in Stevensville, MD: http://www.prsguitars.com. - - Best restaurant close to PRS is Rusticos. Same owners as Luna Blue (see above). Quiet, out of the way, delicious. - - The nearby Kent Narrows area is filled with waterfront restaurants, all good. Newest with best view: Bridges. www.bridgesrestaurant.net END OF LIST - -----Original Message----- From: owner-basia@smoe.org [mailto:owner-basia@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Kim Martin Sent: Friday, October 29, 2010 1:35 AM To: basia@smoe.org Subject: Concert commercial I was very happy to hear a commercial for Basia's concert in Los Angeles on Jill FM today.
