["Desianto F. W." Subject: Re: Just got Birchmere tickets for Nov 4! Aaahhh.... so this is the shocking news that Thelma told me this morning (Indonesian time). To be honest, it's like, Thelma slapped me (in a good meaning - and good intention, of course!) to wake me up. And my response was, "Really? When will she go to Indonesia?" Then, Thelma asked me to check on basiaweb.... :-) After checking the dates, I hope that I will be able to come to one of them. I don't know the exact day yet, since I was told by my friend, who is a committee member of the Family Month Committee in Semarang, not to go too far away from Semarang before November because the artist performing in that occassion needs a bassist - and I was chosen. I hope the day will not the same day(s) as her Indonesian concerts so I can sneak out the back door to see her... :-) Just in case if I couldn't come - and I remember that Basia loves to cook and try new food, I suggest she must try Indonesian fried rice (or "nasi goreng" in Indonesian), fried banana ("pisang goreng" in Indonesian), or "sate ayam" (a kind of chicken barbeque). Those food are quite neutral for foreign tongues, not so spicy and hot, easily found in international hotels in Indonesia; and best of all, most international visitors finally find themselves love them, especially fried rice, very much (even President Obama himself said that he is crazy about Indonesian fried rice). Think twice if somebody offer you "rendang". It's delicious, yes, but it will be too hot and too spicy. Actually, the best place for good and delicious food is in Central Java, where I live. Jakarta is.... let's say, not so good enough. Bali and Surabaya (East Java) are not so bad, since many Central Java people had lived in there for a long time... I've ever been in those places, so I know what I'm saying well... :-) I don't know for how long she will stay in Indonesia, but if it will be long enough, maybe she could visit Surakarta (Solo) and Yogyakarta. They're a kind of cultural centers of Java, the right place if she wanted to know what gamelan music is - and to see the international heritages from Indonesia: batik painting and wayang. There are still many more that she will be able to see, and I hope that all of them can make a deep impression in her heart.... :-) So, welcome to Indonesia, Basia (and Danny, and other crew, and friends... :-) )!!!
