I first heard of the Annapolis show because I just happen to be on the email list for that venue, I've attended other shows there. But I heard nothing about it from anywhere else - - I almost didn't believe it and had to double- and triple-check to make sure it was our girl. : ) Anyway - perhaps it really hasn't been announced elsewhere, but whatever. It's on the Ram's Head's calendar and I have my tickets already. Incidentally - that is really a great place to see a show, but it's small - so I wonder how large a band she'll have with her. BUT - I was there for a Christopher Cross concert a few months ago, he put on a great performance, had a band with him, and it was fun and quite intimate, it only seats about a couple of hundred people or so. An interesting anecdote about that Cross show - there is a friend of mine who is a HUGE Cross fan, and always attends his shows, and at some point is known to always shout "I love you Christopher Cross" during the show, she's done this at a half dozen shows in a row. Well, somehow another friend in the group got a hold of his personal email address and began corresponding with him, months beforehand, and convinced him to listen for this shout-out, and if he heard it, to respond with "I love you too, Mary Smith" - that's not her real last name, but she asked him to use her real full name if this happened. Well - HE DID IT! I didn't know this was coming, either, none of us did, and we were all there, about a couple of dozen people near the center stage, and in this packed room of 200 people or so, he finished a tune, and Mary - finally but predictably - shouted "I love you Christopher Cross", and he got a little sheepish - like perhaps he wasn't sure this was going to work - but he leaned forward into the microphone and quietly and yet distinctly said "I love you too, Mary Smith", and ALL OF US totally went berserk, shouting "no way" - and "do you really know him', and SHE was laughing and shouting toward the stage "HOW DID YOU KNOW?!?!?" and asking within our group "did someone set this UP?!??" and she almost fell over and passed out right on the spot. And we were just so absolutely going nuts that it rippled through the room and EVERYONE was in an uproar, QUITE the moment, really crazy. Anyway, I think he explained it to the crowd but we were just all so crazy that I don't remember, it was pretty funny. And they met afterwards and took pictures, the whole thing, it was a wild time. Turns out the woman who set it up was teenage friends with Laura, a girl who used to be friends with Christopher Cross - I think they actually dated - and she's the girl who tragically died young, and became the inspiration for his song "Laura" that went on to become a huge hit. That was the connection - - none of us knew anything about that until that show, or at least -I didn't know. Anyway - wild night. That was the last time I was at the Ram's Head in Annapolis. You can see in the online seating chart - those are tables and chairs, and you can easily order drinks and food during the show. It's located in downtown historic Annapolis, just a few steps from Church Circle and a short walk from the downtown City Docks, where all the tourists hang out, near the Naval Academy. The original room in which George Washington surrendered his commission - which is considered by many historians to be the significant moment that secured the break of America from a royalty-led government to a republic - that original room is part of the State House, just a couple of blocks away. Anyway - great venue, easy parking across the street, great food all around, couldn't be a better way to see a great show of any kind, especially Basia. - - Steve - -----Original Message----- From: owner-basia@smoe.org [mailto:owner-basia@smoe.org] On Behalf Of John Flood Sent: Wednesday, August 04, 2010 7:00 AM To: basia@smoe.org Subject: Re: Just got my tickets for the show in Annapolis, MD Did I miss a bunch of list messages? Danny was waiting for confirmations to come in when he got back from holiday- they weren't set up when he left. A couple probably got set up- happened last tour, too. No big deal guys! I'm going to go looking to find any others. Ram's Head is a great venue for mature music as I've been told. Enjoy the show, those who are going! No, I don't know what other dates are slated, but apart from Poland I don't believe there are any other European dates on the horizon. That can always change though.
