Folks, Had a MARVELOUS TIME last night. Got there at the venue a bit too early. It was like a "stealth" location since Club Nokia really doesn't have huge signage in this whole ginormous plaza (that has the Staples Center attached to it, and the whole place was in World Cup Fever with Coca Cola merchandising and booths) had lots of restaurants and bars as well, huge underground garage complex - in fact Club Nokia was on the third floor of one area of the complex above a bowling alley called "Lucky Strikes"....but find it I did. I had brought a cheese and cracker tray and the venue staff were nice enough to send it back. I also brought flower bouquets for the ladies. Around 5 or so Annick and Veronique came through - they didn't know where the "proper" performers entrance way, but it gave me a chance to give them their roses - Annick was "my facebook buddy!" (LOL) as we hugged, they introduced some cousins of theirs who came to see them perform and they went on their way. A surprise to many of us was seeing Peter White out in the concourse, another person who I was chatting with in line realized his wife and daughter were with him and we surmised he would be performing tonight...what an absolutely wonderful surprise! I waited in line for some time as I mentioned...and with my shirt many people thought I was either with the show or the venue. Several people said I should sell them...of course I would not. (But Danny and Basia - contact me, I am willing to assist!) Anyway once I got inside, the place was definitely like a TARDIS: bigger on the inside than it appeared on the outside. The upper balcony kinda looked "Thunderdome" with the mesh they put in front of the seats. My seat was RIGHT at the stage Left not 5 feet from the stage. We heard rumor the concert would start a bit earlier - and the band took their places and Basia came out....I popped up quickly and gave her the bouquet I had for her....and jumped back in my seat since the venue staff were pretty strict. Here is set list: If Not Now Then When Drunk on Love Yearning (THIS is the song that makes me cry Jim! And Annick and Veronique just saw me beaming/crying/singing...) Basia spoke for a bit...talked about a new song opening and then introduced the next new song Blame It On The Summer Third Time Lucky Basia spoke again about how she had doubted coming back on tour - she got a standing ovation from the entire crowd....brought her to tears, she had to shush all of us and ask us to sit down. Then she mentioned that they would be coming back in August or September! That brought new cheers. She said we could "make love to each other" and that "the boys paid attention to that"...then she segued into Waters of March Astrud New Day for You Giorgio got his solo....he is so talented....glad he has joined the team. This segued into Baby You're Mine Cruising for a Bruising (given a new opening...to which she asked the folks from the SD or SF concerts to not ruin the surprise) How Dare You (done nice and swing-style!) Miles Away Right here Basia spoke about Peter and introduced him to huge whoops and applause from the crowd A Gift Reward (short Spanish -style guitar riff from Peter) From Now On Here Basia said that this song was made a classic by Peter's guitar solo ("which must be played note for note") Promises Time and Tide - huge applause after this one, and Peter slipped off stage at this point Drummer Marc got a nice solo... which led into Copernicus Another nice drum solo...into Winners (Here is where Basia mentioned the soccer game on Saturday) Half a Minute Danny spotted me right away when they rose for the first "end of the concert" and said "Hey Bev - hi!" and we waved at each other. The group went offstage and then with the crowd applause came back on stage for the encore of "Winners" to which Basia reminded the crowd that the soccer game on Saturday will England v. USA....! They did a nice full group bow to the crowd...and then left the stage. Entire concert was about 1 hour, 45 minutes or so. Her final words to us were "See you next time!" As for seeing them afterwards, well as the venue was more "professional" and not as intimate/open as some of the locales some of you have been able to go to....it basically just didn't happen. I attempted to stay where we were told to stay by Stage Left but the venue staff said that they had to vacate the building. They had asked me if I was on the list and I said probably not...saw Annick briefly when she ushered her relatives to the back. (Nice aside: the cousin said that was the first time they had ever seen them perform! I thought that was so wonderful for them!) Anyway, a stage manager with the tour came to the curtained area and mentioned that Basia would take "30-45" minutes to get dressed, and again the venue staff told him and about 4 of us who were waiting patiently that we would all have to leave. I pressed a bag of some Texas keychains into his hand and asked if he would make sure they got to the group. Then he told us that the group were supposed to leave through an underground garage area....I was tired, but decided to at least try that, especially since they removing the people from the venue as quick as they could. By this time, as euphoric as I am, I am bone tired. My body is on Texas time still....still I drudged around the full complex with two other fans who came from England (!) and waited about 40 minutes before I gave up and called my friend to pick me up. For all I know, they were still in the venue or the venue guys told us the wrong area...as I said it was a HUGE underground parking garage with 2 exit/entrances. Now I have taken literally hundreds of pics from this concert. No, I couldn't take a "real" professional camera in....but, a really decent prosumer camera can give excellent results when you know how to set it - like someone who is a professional phototog on the side (LOL). About the only person I really didn't catch well was Danny, there was a stool right in the way from my angle (and as I mentioned, strict venue staff, no standing etc. during the concert) or Veronique danced nearby - I did finally capture some of him, and of course Peter, Marc, Paul and Giorgio. I'll post them as a soon as I can. I also snagged some other surprises which I will share as well. I'm off to catch more of LA! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 Jun 2010 09:41:51 -0700 (PDT) From: "marzenie_99@yahoo.com" Subject: Re: LA review! "Anyway once I got inside, the place was definitely like a TARDIS: bigger on the inside than it appeared on the outside. Single greatest sentence in the history of Basia reviews. ;) "Then she mentioned that they would be coming back in August or September! That brought new cheers. She said we could "make love to each other" and that "the boys paid attention to that"." What?? LOL! "Cruising for a Bruising (given a new opening...to which she asked the folks from the SD or SF concerts to not ruin the surprise)" She is ON IT this tour man, I tell you! "Here Basia said that this song was made a classic by Peter's guitar solo ("which must be played note for note") Promises" Oh god, yes. They did this the last time in LA at the Universal Amph. and oh man, I have a giant mouthed smile anyway but I about lost my eyeballs there. "Danny spotted me right away when they rose for the first "end of the concert" and said "Hey Bev - hi!" and we waved at each other. " Oh good! "I pressed a bag of some Texas keychains into his hand and asked if he would make sure they got to the group. Sheesh. I'm glad he tried anyway, pretty militant place it sounds like! Great job Bev! Have fun today Leslie ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V14 #74 ***************************
