I just wanted to get my thoughts in while they're still fresh. My wife, son and I attended both Sunday performances at Nighttown. Both shows were marvelous. As others have written of the current tour, I was struck by Basia's energy and range. She still has the chops, let there be no mistake. The audience was enthusiastic and both shows were very well received. Here's the song list: (First show) If Not Now Then When Drunk On Love A Gift Blame It On The Summer Third Time Lucky Waters Of March Astrud New Day For You From Now On Baby You're Mine Cruisin' For Bruisin' How Dare You Time And Tide Copernicus [Encore] Half A Minute Promises (Second show) It's That Girl Again Reward Drunk On Love A Gift Blame It On The Summer Third Time Lucky Waters Of March Astrud New Day For You From Now On Baby You're Mine Cruisin' For Bruisin' How Dare You Miles Away Time And Tide Winners [Encore] Promises A very aggresive line up in my opinion. The band was hot, the Clarisse sisters were spot on and Basia herself had such energy it was unbelievable. She sang with passion, obviously enjoyed the evening and interacted very well with the audience in the intimate venue. She seemed very much at ease in the setting. One thing that made the evening for us was for the encore of the first show she asked for requests. My son and I started yelling "Half A Minute!". She turned to us and was a bit surprised I think, and made a comment about the request (I don't remember what she said I was so shocked that she acknowledged us) and they did the song. It was a magical moment for us! On the down side, we were less than thrilled with the venue. We're used to concerts in an auditorium setting, not something like a school cafeteria. There was much activity all around - people leaving their seats, wait staff walking around, people taking flash pictures. And our seats for both performances were about as bad as you could get. The main room, which is crowded enough had two wings in a T shape off to both sides from the stage area and we were in one of those wings. The sight lines were horrible and the sound on the side we were on was dominated overwhelmingly by the drums, to the point that we couldn't hear Danny's playing unless it was a solo bit. No problems with the vocals, though. So, while the performaces were superb, I would hesitate to attend a show in that setting. (The food was great, however.) I think Leslie made out better with seating. We waited a long time after the show ('til midnight I think) and didn't see Basia at all. Danny said she was tired and freshening up but we couldn't wait any longer. We had a long day of travel and wanted to get back to the hotel for some rest ourselves. Major disappointment there. This was my big chance to say hello and get a picture. I also had my gold T&T disk to sign as well as ESK-1276! I'd like to say maybe next time but who knows when that will be. All in all a couple of great shows but Nighttown was not my cup of tea. It was a pleasure, though, to finally meet Leslie and Matt. They are really lovely people and Leslie got a well deserved acknowledgement from Basia during the second show for all her hard work on the website and for being the glue keeping our mail list together. Well done Leslie! Thanks for your report Dennis. I do worry about her singing so much... My voice was tired from just one show... (it is hard to try and over power the speakers at an outdoor venue... ) Ok.. Leslie... let's hear your report ! ! ! talk to us when you come back down.... thelma - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dennis Majewicz" To: Sent: Monday, June 07, 2010 10:48 PM Subject: Cleveland > > I'm sure Leslie will be writing her impressions of the Sunday shows soon. > I > just wanted to get my thoughts in while they're still fresh. > > My wife, son and I attended both Sunday performances at Nighttown.
