Her voice was amazing, Danny played very well, the sax was rocking, and her backup singers were really charismatic; I'm glad she let them solo on a few parts. Basia herself looked great, although it's clear she's not in her mid-30s anymore. I think she played the part of the classy pop diva very well, and she was incredibly gracious on stage. She made sure to label the songs from the new album, but I don't think she actually mentioned the name of the album or when it was released. I didn't see a merchandise table there. The venue was nice -- it was a supper club with two levels of seating and a medium sized stage. The place held about 350 people, most with tables, but there was a lot standing behind us. My wife and I got there in time to get a seat and catch some dinner before it started. The crowd was very appreciative; much less chatting in the background that most shows I've been to in New York. Her fan base definitely skewed older; at 36, I was one of the youngsters in the room. Here's the set list as best I can remember -- some of the order in the middle may be muddled. If Not Now Then When Drunk on Love A Gift Blame It On the Summer Third Time Lucky Astrud From Now On (with new guitar intro) New Day for You Yearning How Dare You Baby You're Mine Cruising for Bruising (alternate full-band intro) Time and Tide Winners (with great drum solo at start, dedicated to the World Cup) (encore break) Promises Half a Minute ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Jun 2010 08:16:41 -0700 (PDT) From: "marzenie_99@yahoo.com" Subject: last night??? In the Washington DC area, there's a burgeoning popularity of big band and jazz and swing music and it involves a huge and passionate involvement of people of all ages - the 20-somethings are present in large numbers. I think that demographic would turn out in droves if they just knew who she was. Maybe she needs to be featured in an Iron Man 3 movie. Or better yet - just create her own YouTube channel and make a video log. - - Steve - -----Original Message----- From: owner-basia@smoe.org [mailto:owner-basia@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Ben Combee Sent: Thursday, June 03, 2010 11:15 AM To: basia@smoe.org Cc: basia2@yahoogroups.com Subject: NYC Show Report (Leslie, free free to use on BasiaWeb) I was at the Highline Ballroom last night for Basia's return to New York City, and it was really great. (last year and this), and from what I remember, not once was it mentioned .... At both venues they were being sold by the coat check people - so if you didn't check anything in, you might not have noticed them. Danny - if you are reading this - I will do the merchandise for you next time - if the venue allow it of course :-) (I can get you a good reference if needed - lol) Chris - -----Original Message----- From: owner-basia@smoe.org [mailto:owner-basia@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Steve O'Hearn Sent: 03 June 2010 16:37 To: basia@smoe.org Subject: RE: NYC Show Report Ben - > I don't think she actually mentioned the name of the album or when it > was released.
