Between their hating on the digital age (which is here and not one record company has adjusted their business plan to it) and still turning the musical acts into indentured slaves, their business model is so outdated - they will have to turn on one another (through absorption) since most of the people loving and buying music are doing it without them. I was working then with a number of folks 16-20 years old, all of whom used Napster. They constantly griped about slow downloads and unreliability. They all said they would be willing to pay a dollar or two per song to get a reliable download directly from the record company's site. I brought downoads up with all of the record company executives who came to the showcase. To a man (and two women) they thought making their recordings available for digital download was an absurd idea. I knew at the time the record companies were doomed.
