[Brian Lochlaer Subject: Basia in the Philipines (was RE: Which song would you vote for to open the show?) Well, basically, my wife said that if she fails to play some of the old songs in favor of the new material, she risks being criticized in the reviews following the concert. She found this article about the upcoming show: http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleid=497893 I quote: "Basia is the voice behind the hits Half a Minute with the group Matt Bianco, Time and Tide, Cruising for Bruising, New Day for You, Promises, to mention a few." (Lovely photo, by the way. Much better than what they used for the album itself.) Note that all of these songs are all from her first two albums (plus the MB reference). In terms of pop music, the Philippines appears to be firmly stuck in the '80s and they like it that way. I personally found that to be true during my--albeit brief--visit there in 2002. I would find it strange, cause I was always waiting for my favorite singers to come out with new albums. Of course, the entire album is about 50 minutes long so even assuming that she would sing every single song from ITGA there is still plenty of time left for the old ones but it is obvious, that - as this tour is to promote the new album - the artist wants to present the songs from it first of all. As for the old songs I would love to hear new arrangements for some of these: Time and tide, Promises, Ordinary people, Baby you're mine, Astrud, Brave new hope, Prayer of a happy housewife.
