Who got to hear them? And... WOW... Leslie.... " And it came out that she is a very intelligent girl" THAT makes it official. Out of the mouth of Basia is enough for me... to be called intelligent by Basia... you have arrived ! lol Do we know a date for the Japanese CD?? "cause their store prices are always higher that imported CDs and that is the reason why they always ask for some additional songs." To quote from that dumb movie Napoleon Dynamite.... "I want that." This is just so exciting. Just when I was considering feeling old for the first time ever.... Thanks, Leslie... for being born. Yeah, I am going to have to remind myself of this when I do something scientific like forget to turn on the water to the dishwasher or to screw on the bottle top before giving it to the baby: "It's okay, girl. Basia thinks you're smart!." "Do we know a date for the Japanese CD?? There's an inkling of a discussion about wishes for Japanese releases on BasiaWeb btw. more comments! "Thanks, Leslie... for being born. Thelma" Haha, it's all my dear mum's fault. ;) Poor lady! - --Leslie PS- I don't want to hear nothing about you feeling old missy! ;) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Aug 2008 17:31:56 -0700 (PDT) From: Leslie Osborn Subject: Re: Duffy and something interview related Sorry if this went through already, Yahoo just sent me this epic failure notice. Yeah, I was hearing so much about Duffy and after hearing some of her stuff I was disappointed. To me, she's kind of an attempt at cashing in on the vogue of the Amy Winehouse sound but Amy's production is much better at homaging and contemporizing (is that a word, lol-- you guys know what I mean) the same influences. Plus Amy is the real deal as far as the amount of feeling in her singing and songwriting, which is why every day I pray she does not find herself dead in a gutter. I didn't expect Duffy to be *as good*, but thought at least I'd find it enjoyable and was kind of surprised that it was meh. Haven't checked out Gabriella whoever yet. Hey, I am DYING to know what hip hop artist was interesting to her that sounds like Ray-- did she say Kanye? Jay Z? I'd love to know because she once said she liked A Tribe Called Quest and that's a pretty bulletproof choice. Over the years I've paid attention to her interview recommendations and they have been interesting-- some boring as hell (Eddi Reader), made me go WTF (Alanis?!), or have been spot on and brilliant (Stevie, Carole, Nascimento, Noa, hell even Catatonia who put out a record I LOVE). - --Leslie - ----- Original Message ---- From: Stephen Ylvisaker To: basia@smoe.org Sent: Thursday, August 7, 2008 11:58:44 AM Subject: Re: English interview translation - wow! I went to YouTube and looked up the two girls that were referred to in the interview, Gabriella Cilmi and Duffy. They're OK, but don't compare to our Basia. Hey, check out http://www.gracekellymusic.com and catch a VERY capable 16 year old saxophonist, singer, writer and arranger.
