Was it around before Basia's song? Someone on "The Office" said it last night and it made me think.....is it popular because of Basia or was it around before then??? - -Sheryl (Sleep deprived due to 10 month old getting teeth!) **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? But one that I don't think had ever been to music before. And the original expression is "cruising for a bruising", whereas Basia sings simply "cruising for bruising". - -----Original Message----- From: owner-basia@smoe.org [mailto:owner-basia@smoe.org] On Behalf Of ZZsaZZsa@aol.com Sent: Friday, May 16, 2008 8:00 AM To: basia@smoe.org Subject: cruisin' for bruisin' question Hey all - is "cruisin for a bruisin" a common quote? It meant "you're asking for trouble" and that there'd be consequences. When I first heard Basia's song it reminded me of by brother and I immediately took to the song. **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food. I would guess it came out of the earlier 20th century American culture, either gang related or war related maybe. Just guessing though.. Oh, and I also LOVE "The Office." About the title, I always wondered if "Cruising for Bruising" was a Britishism? With the non-dropped -ings and all. ;) During the time some idiot critic took the opportunity to use it to bust on Basia's English, which made me want to bust on his nose. Grrrrarrrg. I recently threw that into a summer mix and realized that my love for that song is unabated by time! - --Leslie ------------------------------ End of basia-digest V12 #107 ****************************
