Concerning Urszula Dudziak and Michal Urbaniak - I would say that if you search you could find something of their repertoire on CDs - for sure I have seen Urszula on CDs on some polish web stores. Here you have a link to Youtube Urszula's probably most famous hit dated back for 1976 I would say - it was composed by her and Michal Urbaniak (they divorced BTW) for her first album and on the record there were Miles Davis musicians playing. Urszula's style is vocalize (that is singing without words) and her voice is said to have 5 octaves - ver impressive! The song title is Papaya and it was quite a hit in it's times all over teh world apart from the US (that is what I have read) Recently is seems to live it's renaissance - a choreography called Papaya dance is taking the globe by storm. Dudziak in ne interview said that she was so suprised about that - and what surprised her the most and move to tears was to see Philippine Army dancing papaya dance (you can find that as well if you search in Youtube) Here is the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VS0SKQnpddM I don't know if they've met with Basia but I would suppose so. Thought not sure too if there is any influence of Urszula in Basia's music. Urszula was recording among other stuff some things of the soundtrack of "Rosemary's child". Of contemporary music stage in Poland the artist I can strongly recomment is Anna Maria Jopek: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A6LSI5gUG4 (live with Pat Methany) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJHARV22LTY&feature=related (live) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ed4ZuwYw224&feature=related (with Michal Zebrowski - polish actor, this is a song with lyrics of polish poem by poet Stanislaw Grochowiak titled "Rapture") Another singer - Kayah: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pc5q4MF4hXM (with Goran Bregovic, one of her best known songs - always played on wedding parties, music also by Bregovic) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuhusthsUWM&feature=related (With Cesaria Evora, I love this song) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mEKJQLPMjY&feature=related (one of my favourites too). International singers that I really like: Brasilian young singers: Bebel Gilberto (I think she is Joao's daughter), Adriana Calcanhoto Spain: Joan Manuel Serrat, Miguel Rios (rock mostly), Joaquin Sabina, my beloved Ana Belen :-) If you are interested in some flamenco artists let me know. I9m familiar with many of the suggestions and somewhat of a fan> of some of them. There were also several I know nothing about and I9m> excited to explore their music. Kitty9s suggestion of Kevyn Lettau (with> whom I9m not familiar) is quite interesting. A favorite of mine has a> similar background.
