Just some of my impressions on this subject :-) I wanted to buy Basia CDs as presents just last week. So I went to one of the biggest chain stores with books and music and asked the guy in music deppartment - "I'm searching for Basia Trzetrzelewska". He checked and said "sorry, we don't have her", I asked him to check Basia only but nothing. I didn't want to believe and went to the shelf with international music and there at B were 3 albums of Basia "Time and Tide", "London Warsaw New York" And "Clear Horizon" and few "Time and Tide" CDs were also displayed at special, very visible shelf with special offers. Seems that the guy didn't have an idea who Basia is and probably he searched in the system, in Polish music section. He was not much younger than me. He had on his ID that he is new on that job, but I thought that if he doesn't know one of very few Polish singers that succeded worldwide so maybe it is not the best choice that he works in a music store. Anyways, I could find out that it is possible to buy Basia's CDs here :-) Krysia >From: Leslie Osborn >Reply-To: basia@smoe.org >To: basia@smoe.org >Subject: Out of.. print? >Date: Sat, 4 Aug 2007 21:28:43 -0700 (PDT) > > >I'm just not finding the albums in stores anymore. It is always fun to try to convince a store clerk that they have mis-shelved something. They usually get a blank, scared look. I remember 25 years ago trying to convince a kid at the local record store that Grand Funk Railroad did NOT belong in the country and western section. He told me, "but it has "railroad" in the name, it must be a country band." I'm surprised that happens at a large chain type store (Barnes & Noble, Borders?) only because I didn't think any decisions were left up to the clerks. I assume the computer at corporate HQ on Mt. Olympus decrees exactly where each CD and book will be placed. The record store near where I used to live in CA had Basia in all of these sections: pop/rock, jazz, and vocal/easy listening. Always wanted to pat whoever did that on the back for covering all bases. - --Leslie O - ----- Original Message ---- From: Steve Richardson To: basia@smoe.org Sent: Monday, September 17, 2007 12:00:43 AM Subject: Fw: Out of.. print?
