And what do we see on the charts 40 years later? A bunch of gutter-mouthed rappers, gloomy mascara-wearing "rock" bands, easy-listening pop singers passing as "country," and about 20 albums by American Idol alums. Think anyone will remember them 40 years from now like we do Aretha and the Beatles in '67. I doubt it. Most of today's music is disposable music. It seems that by lowering the bar on who can get a recording contract (which would seem like a really good thing for someone trying to break through) has backfired in lowering the standard of music being produced. I have to admit that I really didn't realize that much of the music by the greats in the 60s and 70s would be remembered and regarded as it is today. I guess I didn't regard it as being "proper" music, (whatever that means) though I enjoyed it tremendously. But comparing today's music to that back in those eras, WOW. No comparison! Phil P. (Yeah, that's it. The subject line is "Respect", and that is what has been lost: respect for music and it's audience.)

Steely Dan was in Buffalo Saturday night. I was stupid and didn't get tickets right away so I couldn't go. Anyway, I have been playing all their CD's the past week. Does anyone know if there are two different versions to the song "FM?" I have this song on a greatest hits CD, and the end has a real cool sleazy-sounding sax solo. But didn't the song also have a guitar solo at the end?
