He started his residency yesterday (Wednesday) and will be continuing until next Monday. Details on his site; http://www.peterwhite.com/ I went to see the show last night and Peter was in terrific form and was backed by our own Danny White on keys plus Marc Parnell and Nick Cohen who have played with various incarnations of Matt Bianco in the past, plus the excellent saxophonist Jaared who regularly appears with Peter. Jaared is very much in the David Sanborn school of saxophonists. The set comprised of many of Peter's most popular tracks from his career, such as Midnight In Manhattan, Swept Away, My Prayer, Perfect Moment and San Diego. The show was also quite heavy on cover versions as Peter's most recent release "Playin' Favourites" is his interpretation of some of his favourite songs written by others. We heard such diverse tunes as That Lady, What Does It Take To Win Your Love, I Can See Clearly Now, How Deep Is Your Love, Oye Como Va and even the James Bond Theme! The encore consisted of a fun singalong to Hit the Road, Jack and best of all Get Out Of Your Lazy Bed. It seems that Peter had heard Danny working out to the song during the soundcheck and suggested including it. Peter took the vocals on and quite a few of the audience including myself and Fenbydale joined in. It really was a great surprise for us. We were fortunate enough to get a good chat with Danny and Peter after the show and with my journalistic hat on I asked many questions and Danny was kind enough to give full and frank answers. I scribbled down some details on the back of my wine receipt, so as far as I know this is what transpired. Obviously I asked about the progress of the next album. The situation is that 10 songs have already been recorded and a further 3 are needed to bring it to it's optimum length. These are still in the pipeline and Basia and Danny are taking a break while Danny plays these gigs and Basia is currently with her family in Poland. Danny seems very pleased with the quality of the new material but the cloud on the horizon is the fact that there is not currently a record deal in place. They have approached a few companies but with the consolidation that has occured in the industry there are not too many major players with the muscle to get the album out worldwide. They need the deal to finance the final mixing to their satisfaction and also to enable the band to be assembled and rehearsed in readiness for a tour to promote the disc. This will delay the release of the project and 2008 is far more likely than 2007 so we will have to be patient but I'm sure it'll be worth the wait :) I tried to find out if there was a working title. Danny said that two possibilities had emerged so far. "It's That Girl Again" was considered but that has cooled a bit and "Two Islands" is the current favourite. I really like that. Both of these are titles of songs that have been recorded. As I said this is just a working title and is no way the final word. I also discussed if there was any change in the Basia/Kevin "will they/won't they tie the knot" situation and while they are still very happily engaged there are no immediate plans to get married. We also had a nice chat about our musical tastes. Danny mostly listens to classical music at the moment. Chopin, Debussy and Dvorak were some of the names that came up. We discussed the fact that Jobim had based Insensatez/How Insensitive on Chopin's Prelude In E Op28 #4 and having overheard us Peter pulled up a really modern version of the song from his laptop. It is by Celestial from their "Hong Kong Dub Station" album. You can hear the track if you like; http://www.hongkongdubstation.com/info/art.htm Click on sounds, start up the tape jukebox and click on "Hong Kong Dub Station" then select the track "How Insensitive". Very different, but worth a listen. I still prefer Sinatra's version, however. Anyway, that's all I can remember, but it really was a great evening and highly recommended to anybody who is able to attend. ___________________________________________________________ Tiscali Broadband only B#9.99 a month for your first 3 months! http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/broadband/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Apr 2007 16:45:59 -0700 (PDT) From: Leslie Osborn Subject: Re: Getting down in London Town Hey, that's fantastic Phil. Mind if I post an edited form of this (regarding the shows and the album) on the site front page? I'd appreciate it, with another death in the family along with settling my mom's estate I've not been in my top form with the site. The label thing has been a real bummer to hear about because to me, and to all of us, it's such a no brainer to sign them on the spot-- (I only didn't mention it before because I wasn't sure that was somehting they wanted out!) It'll happen though and in the right way, I have no doubt!! "Its that girl again"-- that's hilarious! :) Leslie - ----- Original Message ---- From: "49ersphil@tiscali.co.uk" <49ersphil@tiscali.co.uk> To: basia2@yahoogroups.com Cc: basia@smoe.org Sent: Thursday, April 5, 2007 6:21:22 PM Subject: Getting down in London Town Hi All As some of you may know, Peter White is currently playing some dates at Pizza On the Park in London.
