Phew. > > -- Leslie O. > http://www.basiaweb.com / http://www.myspace.com/leslieosborn ================ At this time 20 years ago..... I was 9 years old. Enjoying the first seven months of living in Salatiga, a small town in Central Java. Got some new friends at school, but still trying hard to face the "killer" teacher who made my days like nightmares..... However, I really enjoyed walking to school because I can see the beautiful scenery of Mount Merbabu in the morning. Or walking down the road to a countryside, about 6 or 8 miles far from home with my friends, just to enjoy the stream or go fishing.... About musical taste at that time, well, some kids songs and some Indonesian pop songs would make my heart go dancing, or at least feel better. Czesc, Desianto F. I've noticed the closing of lots of CD stores over the past few years, but recently I've noticed the big stores such as Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc., that still have CD areas have far fewer CDs in stock. Is this because people are not buying music, or is it because people are downloading to iPods and the like, or because people are listening to free music by searching around on myspace? This is probably not the best place to ask this question as we are mostly near-geezers, but we may have some observations. un abrazo, juan Leslie Osborn wrote: > Yeah, okay, we beat this topic to death but this is an editorial not to miss I think. Aren't these musicians creative enough to come up with their own original music? Believe me, we could spend a lot of time picking on old favorites such as Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart for making totally cover CD's. I would even pick on Buffalo's own Goo Goo Dolls for covering Supertramp's "Give A Little Bit". My not so humble opinion is that when you have to start remaking other people's songs, it's just a move to save a sinking career - or maybe come up with another big payday. I have yet to see the new Incognito in a proper store. I think you have all the reasons nailed really IMHO. Unless I'm on the hunt, myself I buy most of my music online (amazon or dustygroove for the better stuff) or download it (iTunes). And sorry but CDs are just too damn expensive to boot unless you stalk the sales the week of release. I support my favorites by getting the full package, but most releases are just as good to me in files-- many are coming with digital liner notes which is sealing the deal. Recently I mentioned to someone that I wanted to buy the actual album of some mp3s I had and they looked at me like I had a spare head. - -- Leslie O. I do that more than actually buying CDs now. It's generally a few dollars cheaper, even on iTunes. I've priced a few CDs (all of the tracks from one anyway) at around $10 on iTunes versus around $15 in stores. You're paying the extra for the physical CD (I backup all of my music anyway) and the case and artwork. There are a few (very few) CDs that I want for the artwork, etc. But if I'm not a huge fan of the artist I'll just download the songs. I have found a website called www.yourmusic.com that is pretty nice. You can get CDs for $5.99 each. You pay that amount per month and put selections into a queue, so they send you one a month from that. You can also order more at that price and there are some sets that are a bit more. But the prices are a lot less than normal. The selection is a bit limited but it's not bad. I've been with it a few months and I keep finding stuff I want. That's the only way I buy CD's most of the time anymore. The times are changing. Barry "Do not go where the path may lead.
