There are two songs that REALLY grabbed my attention: One is "Cab Driver" by Darryl Hall (solo CD "Can't Stop Dreaming" 2003). They played it on my jazz station, and so I bought the CD. I really like all the songs on it. The other is "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley. I saw/heard them on Letterman, and went...uh...crazy for it. I caught the rerun of that show and taped it, and learned to play/sing it from the video. First song I ever learned from a video. And that song is from THIS YEAR! That is so uncharacteristic of me to be that current. It usually takes me YEARS to connect solidly with someone's music. My girlfriend loves them, so we went to see them a couple weeks ago. I figured they would be good, but they were very good. Daryl Hall Is extremely talented, whereas John Oates is totally superfluous. Hall still can sing all over the place, plays guitar and keyboards, and the women still love him! They played all their hits. They also did a great cover of "Me And Mrs. Jones" (remember that one?) I wish I could say I had some new musical heroes to discuss.......................... We're hoping to see them in concert this year. They come to St. Louis every year but you have to buy a super expensive membership to the local PBS station to get tickets. If we had the money to throw around we would, but we don't. Hopefully they'll make stops nearby. Last year they did but we couldn't get there that day. Anyway, they all have their own CDs out now. My favorite of the group has always been Orla Fallon. I just love her voice and the way she sings every song. If you like Celtic music at all, check out the group and/or the individual CDs. I have 2 of the 6 individuals right now, I'm hoping to complete the collection soon. Gretchen Wilson is from my hometown but I'm not crazy about what I've heard from her. Barry Isn't Gretchen from Southern Illinois or is that someone else?? Yes, I was aware of the grief DC and TK have caused each other. Natalie once wore a shirt that said "F U T K" - I'm sure you can figure that out. I think the DC actually started this war of words stating that they didn't like his music....then their big criticism of the pres and TK increased his "flag waving ways" just put fuel on the fire. There is a new documentary coming out called "shut up and sing" which I think documents all this stuff. I wish all singers, actors, and the like would "shut up and sing" or act.....it really gets my panties in a bunch when they preach about their cause of the week. John Denver was one of the worst culprits of this! I saw him in concert (not my choice - was forced to go with family and yes, I fell asleep at one point) - he went on and on about the environment or something..... Then there is Tom Cruise......rolling my eyes, don't even get me started. Sigh! - -Sheryl (stepping down off her soap box!)
