Subject: Twenty big ones This morning, I had a strange dream. I was in a dark shop surrounded by piles of old newsprint. On closer examination they were copies of Record Mirror. Some off-screen voice says, oh yeah, it's been twenty years since "Run for Cover." I was like, "Huh? That wasn't even her best song.";) My subconsious was only half right- it has actually been twenty years since the release of "Prime Time TV", Basia and Danny's first single release as Basia, on July 26 1986. It was put out by Portrait, then part of CBS before Epic and Sony and all that, in both seven-inch and twelve-inch formats- no CDs yet. The b-side was "Freeze Thaw (7" version), and twelve-inches were also teamed with Prime Time TV (Instrumental). I have mine right in front of me. :) Other reissues and repackagings would come later, this is THE debut alone, in the UK, long before we (mostly) in the US would even be aware. So, a big happy anniversary to Basia and Danny! On the front page of BasiaWeb I have that first ad from the NME. It's very cute. :) Quite a splash to start out with. And for the curious, "Run For Cover" was released in October. And with that I go back to the task at hand... there is a reason why I have Basia singles ambling around my subconcious! ;) ;) - -- Leslie O. www.basiaweb.com / www.gruentransfer.com "btw...a vast proportion of bad lyrics are overly serious, unimaginative lyricists abusing the word "soul". If a lyric contains the word "soul", the song has an 85% or better chance of sucking. Using "soul" in the title of the song yields a 92% or better suckage rate. If a band name has "soul" in it and they're not signed to Motown, it has a 98% chance of sucking. I can produce charts if anyone's interested." -poster on Metafilter . . Tired of spam? Yahoo!
