Subject: RE: UYCBTM (on AI); others Hey, this reminds me of another reality music show person that cites Basia as an influence: Valure from Fatty Koo, from the BET show. (which I have never seen. I just ran across this the other day.) http://tinyurl.com/ev6ra (they have their own URL too but it attacks you with instantly-booting audio) I guess they sound OK, your basic urban pop/R&B band. Not bad or untalented though, but their name sucks. And Willa Ford, singer now hosting some reality show on Spike TV, called Basia an influence during the publicity for her first album. She was sort of in that whole teenage-pop diva arms race at one point. Never heard her music. Again, the official site launches annoying audio right away so here's a fansite. (I HATE auto-launching audio which is why I will never ever have it) (scroll to bottom) http://www.willaford.org/bio.php Wish I were making this up, but no. Well, at least they have good taste in music! - -Leslie O. PS-- not a fan of AI. I guess I should be more cynical or something... but it kind of makes me feel dirty to watch these poor bastards humiliate themselves. Yeah, I know it's their choice and all, and genuinely talented people come out of it, but the whole process is so gladiator-arena/misery specatating that I just can't get behind it. But several billion people around the world disagree with me, so what do I know? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Count me in with the billion. I love the show. I love to hear Simon say to innocent little Kellie Pickler "You look like Dolly Parton tonight." after they have now been given "Hollywood" wardrobe and makeup and are being "changed" to look more like a REAL star. Peck peck peck until the regular good ol American "fits in." There is a reason that the shows gets so much of the American audience. It is clean and shows good ol' Americans are still around. I study people too much so I love the exposure of the mental that American Idol gives us. Thanks again Leslie for all you do. When is your birthday? I know you were being funny when you said my "21st".... it is on the 21st... I will be 51. or is it 50-wonderful... Honestly I didn't pay that much attention, but it did sound like hers. Of course they always change things and make it "unique" and I REALLY wasn't watching. I was working online and my wife had it on. It only caught my attention because of that song. So, I guess you could say the girl on AI honored both. ~Joe~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Mar 2006 14:47:53 -0600 From: tom & kelly Subject: Tascam Portastudio These songs also show just what a revolution the Portastudio began. Thanks to you, Danny, for providing these, and to you, Leslie, for posting them. un abrazo, juan For those who do not know the Tascam Portastudio was the first 4 track cassette and signal mixer all in one. About the size of a phone book this deck offered very easy switching in record and play back modes. I believe it was also battery powered. It had a two band EQ and it was just cool. My friend had one, we used it all the time. Only we didn't have a secret weapon named Basia. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Mar 2006 15:16:43 -0800 (PST) From: "Leslie O." Something that happened after all my mom stuff is that my sense of humor changed a lot-- stuff or people I would laugh at stuff before now makes me just sad, or angry even. It's weird, still figuring it out. But I hear that audition phase is over and now it's the talent contest really, which is better. Thanks again Leslie > for all you do. When is > your birthday? I have a few more weeks yet until mine (April 6) which is the day after Tom's. I'm surprised Desi even remembered honestly. Morph the Cat isn't breaking any new ground, but new Fagen is always cause for celebration. No Carlton or Cornelius Bumpas, but I urge you to listen a few times more. Kamikyriad took me a while to get into, but it grew on me for sure. NO album he'll ever do will eclipse NightFly(although I encourage him to keep trying). Too broke to go see him in Minneapolis this weekend. Right down the street from where Basia performed last year. Subject: Re: UYCBTM (on AI); others Ummm...., if my calculation is correct, Leslie will be 29 on this April 6, 2006.... :-) About how I remember birthdays, well, actually it is because of my old habit of remembering birthdays of my friends and families. In addition, besides being a farmer, I also take care of the archive of the church where I go to, so I have access to a lot of data. But sometimes people willingly give their birthday when I ask about it. On the other hand, sometimes they give it unconsciously and not deliberately though I never ask, so I just rely on my brain to digest the meanings. It is a joy to see the surprised look on someones face, followed by smile and laugh when I say Happy Birthday to him/her. Though I do not give presents oftenly, at least by doing that, I make them feel that there is somebody who still cares of them, regardless of what they have been through. It is small thing indeed, but so meaningful. BTW, thank you, Thelma, for the letter you had sent to me. - ---- Czesc, Desianto F.
