Subject: Re: Larry Carlton's birthday Wow, he's way more of a badass than I realized. I had no idea he was shot and went through all that recovery and rehab. Also, he auctioned his guitar on eBay for a friend with cancer. He's solid now in my pantheon of heroes! I saw him in 1992 in Detroit at the Fox Theatre. It was a multi-act throwdown with Najee, Rippingtons, and Acoustic Alchemy as well. At this time this was the second best concert I thought a person could dream up, so I made my mom take me. Everyone else was good (except I could have done without Najee) but Larry was clearly from another realm of musician than the others. I loved how the diverse audience were all feeling it, going... mmmm hmmmm! and Give it to me, Larry! LOL Nothing like Detroit audiences. His set was very blues-oriented. My mom also talked about him for weeks after. Retrospectively I'm surprised she didn't buy his whole back catalogue! - -- Leslie O. www.basiaweb.com / www.gruentransfer.com "in my head there's a greyhound station Where I send my thoughts to far off destinations..."
