Maybe it's just that her friend was a genuine tree hugger and made up the part about olive trees and good luck on the spur of the moment. Or, maybe it's a cultural thing that doesn't show up in Google or Wikipedia. Sometimes the best stories / ballads are fragments of real life. It would be interesting to hear more about this one though. - ----- Original Message ----- > OK, kiddos - what IS the significance of the olive tree and the whole > hugging thing anyway? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 28 Feb 2006 08:32:29 -0800 (PST) From: "Desianto F. One interesting thing is that, all of the olive trees grow to the same direction (East?), maybe it is caused by wind, well, I do not know. Or maybe it is because many people have hugged and leaned on them for decades... :-) I believe it is nice being there. Everytime I watch Formula-1 race in Monaco on TV and see the road sign (direction) with the word NICE on it, I wonder what it would be like if I had a chance to visit it.... ---- Czesc, Desianto F. Hee! I love the pure joy of it-- I know what she means. I'm back in NorCal finally reunited with my husband, and I want to hug every freaking olive tree in sight. ;-) - -- Leslie O. www.basiaweb.com / www.gruentransfer.com *insert entire lyric to Neil Diamond's "Hell Yeah" here* Tired of spam? There are these crazy trees along the road from Petaluma to Napa that grow like freaky Sleepy Hollow props, all gnarled and leaning strangely. I've been told the wind does this, too. And a lot of the trees are really soft, if that's a tree characteristic, dunno how else to explain it. They yield to wind and the whims of soil, and have been known to spontaneously fall. A sign along the road warns motorists of the peril! - -- Leslie O. www.basiaweb.com / www.gruentransfer.com "Look at us-- we should be thankful After all-- weve got everything And others in the world Would be grateful For a chance of having half as much" Tired of spam?
