I would bet that the person responsible for the shot is a Basia fan or has seen the cover and it has stayed with them. In a similar vein, I was watching the wonderful weepie "Bridges of Madison County" the other day and thought that the dark haired Meryl Streep character (Francesca Johnson) had a look of Basia and was not unlike her from the Basia interviews that I've seen. How tragic if Basia's talents had been surpressed by a life of just being somebody's wife and somebody's mother with no outlet for her creativity. I guess that coming from a middle class background helped a lot. >-- Original Message -- >Date: Tue, 22 Nov 2005 18:18:41 -0800 (PST) >From: "Leslie O." >Subject: Random, Basia related >To: basia@smoe.org >Reply-To: basia@smoe.org > > > >Separated at birth: the new Memoirs of a Geisha movie >poster/book cover, and the cover to LWNY. When I first subbed to Sirius, Jazz Cafe was okay, played a decent amount of MB and Basia (though the day the dude played "Promises" he made it sound like it was so old, it was a song from 1895 or something). But lately it's not so hot. I've been listening to Planet Jazz much more. :-) - --Leslie O. - --- JPovlock@aol.com wrote: > > Last Friday I went to hear a local band called The > Filter Kings (Dennis - > ever see them?) OK... them are fighting words. I know I have an ability to create music. I can hum a tune that I have never heard before but can only hum it once. Creativity in my head is really cheap. Having "tragically JUST" been a mother of six with no outlet for my creativity let me share with you the things my children are doing... ok... I will not even try other than to say that my daughter is publishing a book, my sons are each unique with some of "MY" creativity that I gave to them in everyday care. In my humble opinion being a mother is a harder thing to do as far as the accolades of the "world" but is extremely rewarding when the little creations experience their own lives and simply live life. They may accomplish whatever they may and it is from their own work coupled with their teachings. I take the teaching part as being my outlet for creativity. "I guess that coming from a middle class background helped a lot." What do you mean by this? Yesterday as one of my sons was joking about marrying "up." (financially) I told him that the ONLY UP is in spirituality... not money. I told him there is not a person with money on this earth that can obtain more spirituality than he can and that is the only thing we take with us. The classes are a temporary thing. I am grateful that Basia has created music that has enhanced my "motherhood. " I am more thankful that she has taken the time to be a daughter/mother/wife and felt the real joys of life. The End OK... it is a topic I feel stronly about. Using 3/4 instead of 4/4? Having classical music instead of Jazzia? Or it would come as a symphony so the title would be: Symphony No. 2 - Promises (Love Is Contagious) in A major. I do not mind if it would be like Mozart or Beethoven... :-) ---- Czesc, Desianto F. W. - --- owner-basia@smoe.org wrote: > > On Sirius it's called Planet Jazz, and it's so > awesome. Once though I saw an old photo from the 60s done in that style, which is probably the more likely culprit for homage. Recently I saw an image of Francoise Hardy in a fashion mag that I thought was really cool, so I googled for others (I was looking for a photo to show the hair stylist, "DO THIS!" LOL) and you know, taken in total they reminded me a lot of how Basia was styled during the LWNY era-- clearly whoever her stylist was, was inspired by Francoise. Maybe it was just me or maybe it was the bangs and the motorcycle jacket were just coincidence ;-P It's classic, anyway. Blah blah blah... - -- Leslie O. a la mode __________________________________ Yahoo!
