It's "Tico Tico", and the version I was remembering is by Edmundo Ross & His Orchestra. Maybe I'm stretching it just a bit, but I don't think so... Any thoughts from any of you on this? ~Rob - -----Original Message----- From: Rob McCausland [mailto:rob@bevcam.org] Sent: Friday, July 15, 2005 9:40 PM To: 'basia@smoe.org' Subject: RE: Wake up!: Underrated songs To find out more about this song ("Ordinary People") is why I joined this listserve. Rob McCausland here -- my maiden post. I'm wondering if anyone here can help me name the original source that Peter White somewhat quotes in his accordian lines. The four brief accordian riffs that start at 51 seconds in - at the ends of the lines 1) "We ordinary people", 2) "sometimes frightened a little", 3) "hiding our ancient hopes", and 4)"need someone to hold." Put thouse four accordian lines together, pump up the tempo a lot, straighten out the melody just a tad, and you've got a king-hell famous Latin jazz number from sometime back in the 30s or 40s, I should think. I just can't place it. Does anyone know what I think I'm hearing here? It's a really ramped up number -- I see dancers ala Ricky Ricardo or Ann Miller moving swiftly, boldly, left, right, left acoss a stage, hands thrown in the air, at the end of each line. In the slower setting White et al give it, this tune is also echoed in Bela Fleck's "Lover's Lane" (Outbound). Since I'm new to the group, I wouldn't know what might be considered "underrated." However, for what it's worth, "Third Time Lucky" and "Waters of March" are tracks I'll often listen to 4 or 5 times in a row - and it's been a long time since I've listened to any artist's work that way. Thanks for the thread, and any responses. ~Rob - -----Original Message----- From: owner-basia@smoe.org [mailto:owner-basia@smoe.org] On Behalf Of majewicz@adelphia.net Sent: Friday, July 15, 2005 7:26 PM To: basia@smoe.org Subject: Re: Wake up!: Underrated songs - ---- "Leslie O." wrote: >What is > the Basia song that you think is so kickass but so underappreciated >and underrated?
