The impression I got through subsequent interviews is that they thought they were being *too* faithful to the original. I have heard the live version, and it is arranged etc. as a Motown one would be. And I belive their record company encouaged the cover. But then it was funny-- the US single version wasn't even the one on LWNY, but the Umberto Gatica remix (the one you hear in the vid)! It sounds to me that there was always some worry over that song! I can understand why: on one hand she's covering her idols, and on the other she's covering a soul classic as one of the more unlikely suspects to cover a soul song. No pressure! ;-) I like the live version better -- but I like the Phil Harding remix the best! Actually, when I heard the medley I thought they should have covered Say A Little Prayer instead! :-D As usual: apologies for any incorrectness! Leslie O. Tired of spam? Yahoo!
