Mary timed Jesus' birth to fall right on Christmas day. What are the odds? Don't take it as gospel (so to speak), just something that some experts believe. Some people believe that Jesus wasn't born on Christmas Day. In fact, they believe he was born on September 11th. Yes, 9/11. This is something that has been bounced around for a long time, long before "9/11" came to mean something. If that is true, then he was conceived around December 25th, which I believe those same scholars believe. I've seen good evidence to support it but I don't think there's anything definitive. Just something to consider. Some also believe it was timed to meld with the Northern European pagan Yule holiday season. Early Popes thought it was better to align with old trads than to try to destroy them, which would rightfully piss everyone off. ;-) So they timed lots of Christian holidays to hit the pagan celebratory seasons.
