AAAAAIIIII! The Michael McDonald Motown covers. No, thanks. Lets just put a moratorium on ALL Motown covers. Quit cheapening my music and go find your own Holland Dozier Holland! Maroon 5, period. Why? and,,, THAT FREAKING ENTERPRISE THEME! I'm serious, that song is why that show sucked so bad. It like, set the precedent of suckage to come. (Ya'll know how I feel about Dianne Warren, I'll spare you) The other day, I was at the fabric store and over the intercom was... ROD STEWART SINGING THE ENTERPRISE THEME!!! Talk about a double whammy of painful ear corrupting crapola. And I had to stand in line too. though watching Matt pantomime was great in-line entertainment. and,,,, Dear Sirius: please stop torturing me with the freaking Kenny G Pick Up The Pieces cover. Don't you know that Average White Band is mounting a comeback with a new version of their song-- or was, until KG ate their steam for breakfast and spat it out. Have some respect. Love, Leslie O. We won't even discuss the 'What a Wonderful World" dubbing-over nightmare. Pat Metheny did a fantastic job of putting the smack down for all of humanity! All the instrumentals with the oversexed chanty lady repeating the title over and over. You know what I mean. I swear, it's the same woman grossing everyone out. Stop already. and finally.... CHRIS BOTTI. Cute, yes. Talented yes. Huge sell out, yes. Annoying crappy cover songs ? You betcha! (yeah, we need another version of "No Ordinary Love", PLEASE PLEASE! With background chanting to boot!) Frustrating to see someone talented and with some chops suck so bad out of choice. Now he's gonna drive everyone nuts and everyone will hate him. A la Kenny G. Suck-ola. (there's a few other people who also frustrate me equally by playing beneath their skill, one in particular. But that's another topic.) And that's it. I'll go gloat about the Pistons-Spurs series that I predicted indeed coming to pass. NEVER count out the Pistons, they play their best after they play their worst. Deeetroit Basketbaaaaall, Leslie O. I could even listen to Maggie Mae for 2 hours instead of watching that film. > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-basia@smoe.org [mailto:owner-basia@smoe.org]On Behalf Of > steve7701@theriver.com > Sent: Monday, June 06, 2005 1:33 PM > To: basia@smoe.org > Subject: Vomit-inducing songs > > > > The two songs that really annoy me most over the past two years - and I > have no idea of the actual titles or who performs them: > > 1. A few examples: "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden, "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana, and "Jump" by Van Halen. Along with songs by Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, etc., which don't seem quite so bizarre for Anka to sing. I've always felt Anka was the lousiest of all songwriters, responsible for such cringe-worthy epics as "Having my Baby." And a very mediocre singer to boot. But I don't know what to think about this new release. It will probably shoot to the top of the "World's Worst CD" lists. Unless it turns out to be one of those so-bad-it's-good releases. For example, Rod Stewart did Carole King's "So Far Away", but added nothing positive to it. Can't find an excuse for that one. On the other hand, Gloria Estefan redid King's "It's Too Late" and gave it a different rythymic feel, and I loved it. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Jun 2005 17:38:27 -0400 From: "Steve O'Hearn" Subject: RE: Vomit-inducing songs Oh, wow. I still remember the episode of "WKRP", when Johnny the DJ was seen saying "and now, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, singing 'You're Having Our Baby'" - followed by, sure enough, some choir performing the opening line of "YOU'RE HAVING OUR BABY!!!!" This made me think of when I was talking to Danny in San Antonio about how I have "Basia Moments" in local grocery stores on the Muzak system... but thankfully the songs are REALLY her and NOT Muzak-ed. - -- Beverly Okin-Larkin steve7701@theriver.com wrote: >Wow, I just heard about a CD release that sounds too bad to be true: Paul >Anka has a new album, called "Rock Swings," in which he performs rock and >grunge classics with big-band arrangements. It's not the best cover I've heard, but not the worst either. I'm far from the biggest Rod Stewart fan, but I thought it was a pretty good job. I agree that it wasn't unique, and a lesser artist may not have pulled it off. But he did, and it wasn't bad. Just my 2 cents. But I like a lot of music "just because". I've only heard a snippet of one of the songs on Paris Hilton's debut CD, but I'm almost sure it won't have any substance. raburabu joe - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paxety Pages" To: Sent: Tuesday, June 07, 2005 1:52 PM Subject: re: Vomit-inducing songs I fear it will rival the William Shatner album. un abrazo, juan *********** REPLY SEPARATOR *********** On 6/7/2005 at 10:30 AM steve7701@theriver.com wrote: >Wow, I just heard about a CD release that sounds too bad to be true: Paul >Anka has a new album, called "Rock Swings," in which he performs rock and >grunge classics with big-band arrangements.
