I had a dream last night that I consider The Sweetest Illusion. I was at a concert, front row center (of course), and the only singers were Basia and Astrud. Talk about heaven on earth! Then I got to go backstage afterward to meet them both and get pictures and autographs. I don't know why I didn't realize it was dream. It sure felt real. Too bad it wasn't. If you are a fan of samba and Brazillian stylings, she is excellent. She has really brought Brazillian music into the present day. I cannot recommend her highly enough. She has a great voice and her CDs are fantastic. Her music has a lot of subtlety to it and was not overwhelmed at first listenings, but, man, did she grow on me. I don't doubt Basia was thrilled to meet one of the current icons of the Brazillian music scene. Wow, talk about bloodlines. How great would it be to see those two on a twin bill? Thanks for posting that. - -- Bill - -------------- Original message -------------- > > Funnily enough, there is an obscure but official black and white > 8.5x11 promo picture of Bebel Gilberto and Basia hugging. Probably the most famous of all Brazillian female vocalists. She almost single handedly propelled the bossa-nova sound around the world, and it was only by chance that she was in the studio when her husband, Joao Gilberto was recording the song. Someone suggested that Astrud take a crack at the vocal and the rest is history. Everyone knows that song. She is still recording and her daughter, Bebel, has taken up the bossa-nova sound and put a contemporary spin on it. - -- Bill > > Ok, kids, I'm ignorant - who IS Astrud? > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: owner-basia@smoe.org [mailto:owner-basia@smoe.org]On Behalf Of > > Leslie Osborn > > Sent: Friday, May 13, 2005 2:21 PM > > To: basia@smoe.org > > Subject: Re: The Sweetest Illusion > > > > > > > > --- A Fan wrote: > > > > > > Funnily enough, there is an obscure but official > > > black and white > > > 8.5x11 promo picture of Bebel Gilberto and Basia > > > hugging. Bebel is JOAO's daughter-- with someone else. NOT Astrud. :-D BTW, Astrud's site is cool, if not hideously ugly. As is stated in the interview, that misconception is a common one. She clearly takes a personal interest in her "face", as presented on the internet. She "gets it", but her life probably does not revolve around her website. Also, she has taken the time to address her fans - at length, and on several occasions. "funnily" sounds like a word I would use... in other words... is it a word? Also, If Mark tours again with Basia then would it be "Mark Twain?" Steve... the "Mark" thing... that was real cute. Get the picture of you and Basia on the site. Also, can we see Leslie anywhere????? MUST SEE LESLIE ! ! ! ! It has been so much fun to share this incredible tour with you all. Having had 6 children it was like "expecting" for a long long long time and finally getting to see the bundle of joy. It was wonderful to get to meet some of you.
