Subject: RE: Yearning & She Deserves It (OT) Bill, Leslie, Barry, and other friends, Thank you very much for the advices. Sorry I can't reply ASAP because I was out of town for days. Sure things, I will never give up trying though it's not a one night effort - of course. Maybe it will take months even years but I won't lose hope. Thank you very much. Desianto F. I had forgotten all about that until yesterday when I received a reply from him. He let me know he was going to be in Detroit yet again in two weeks with Riverdance. AND that he had a couple of tickets if I was able to attend then. I wrote back and said that I accept his generous offer. Hope to hear back shortly. I hope to get to meet Paul then. That would be way cool! :) Phil P. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 09 May 2005 11:00:56 -0700 From: "Stephen Ylvisaker" Subject: Flint Center Show Hi! Leslie you were missed last night. Hi to Renee and Marisol! You ladies have very patient husbands to have waited with you at the stage door, in the rain. I hope they now understand just how special Basia is. It was a fantastic show! I really enjoyed some of those old Matt Bianco songs I'd never heard before. I think Basia was singing better than ever. Mark Reilly has his own special sort COOL, and he really had it going on last night. Everyone was really "tight." The Flint Center does have a quirk. The speaker racks, above and on each side of the stage, seem to be designed to project the voice out to the back of the house, which is great, but everyone in front of Row E couldn't hear the voices as well as we'd have liked. I also waited at the stage door. I enjoyed meeting and talking to several people there. I thoroughly enjoyed talking with the drummer, Mark Parnell. Because I was enjoying the conversation I didn't get in the press of people trying to get autographs and photos of Basia, Danny and Mark. However, I got Basia's autograph and talked to Danny back on the TSI tour, so I didn't really miss out. I asked Mark Parnell about the earpieces, and he verified that they replaced the stage monitors. He also said his headphones were for the "click," or beat, track, and the drawback was he couldn't hear the audience appreciation for his solo. Mark also verified that some added instruments were used with the computer. For example, at the end of the third song a cello sound was used. The electric guitar player, Tim Cansfield, might have been able to alter his sound to play it, but he wasn't playing the same thing. Mark said they didn't use very much MIDI, but they did have some, where they felt is was important. I think Danny made wise and sparing use of the MIDI. All in all, an indelible evening. I was very proud of the fan contingent out there last night-- I heard that there were loads of peeps waiting for them at the buses in spite of the rain! I was lucky enough to get to say hi too, which was really nice. As far as the show itself-- WOW. Being that close was fascinating, watching everyone playing and seeing how they do what they do. It was also nice for me to have someone fairly unblinded by fan devotion (my husband) and a fan that is a tough customer with live shows (my friend) both just go on about how tight the band is. My husband (Matt) also got a kick out of watching Paul and Kevin. Talk about guys having fun on the job. ;-) EVERYONE in the band just was amazing, and about the wiggins on the prerecorded whatever-- everyone was playing. Everyone. What they are using technology for is to keep everyone on tempo (as the acoustics can throw someone off) and to play the parts that are too many to physically have one person play! (as well as what Mark and Marc told Stephen about last night) This is how Danny explained it to me and it makes sense. It's not like they can haul 24 Basias on stage and 5 Dannys. ;-) And as for Mark, I think you guys that were complaining about him earlier are all insane . ;-) In LA he sounded softer than the others because of his mic. In Cupertino he sounded right on point and they had him miked right. (Apart from the sound glitch that gave us no right channel in the front for the first 3 songs, the sound was great there). His presence and his voice were awesome last night-- I was so happy to have seen him. He laughed when I was like, "Dude, you sounded awesome tonight!" I should have added, "totally, like fer sure!" ;-) But really, it was great. The crowd LOVED him. So there! See him for yourself, decide for yourself, but I'm firmly pro-Mark. And Basia, duh, was unbelievable. I'd say more but I'm getting a bit of a lump in my throat thinking about it too much. I'll have a proper report at some point on the site and I'll holla when I get it done. I'm far too much swimming in emotion from the past few days to write anything useful. For many reasons it was a very special time to me. - -- Leslie O. "People around the world want the same thing- wanting to love and be loved.
